Why doesn’t anyone warn you that if you’re pretty, feminine, and smart/into stereotypically nerdy things, then some people are gonna hate you?

r/

There’s something polarizing about a girl who is pretty and feminine but is also smart and nerdy (example, she’s bubbly and feminine like Elle Woods but also has a master’s in math or something)

It attracts hate from some crowds.

    Those crowds can shove it.

People just find any reason to hate women. You can be ugly, masculine, and smart/into needy things and you’ll still get hate. Nothing polarizing about it

what do you mean no one warns you? people talk about this regularly. it’s a known thing. (oh and it has nothing to do with her being feminine, just the flavor of hate is maybe a little different than if it was a tomboy.)

I guess we are all just use to it. 🤷‍♀️

I joined tech in my 40s. It helps me when I remind myself that while there are down sides there are also upsides. A lot of leaders who would blow off most newer employees will actually take time to mentor me. Everyone remembers me. And I get meetings with people your average man can’t.

I found a women in tech group that helped me feel a part of a community. And I got great advice from women who have been there on how to meditate the challenges.

I suggest you find a women’s group in whatever field you are in. You won’t feel so alone, and you will get some great mentors. There are groups for women in engineering, gaming, chemistry, math, whatever you are into.

Sorry fellow male dominated field sister. Hopefully we can make it better for our daughters.

then it means that that girl is probably book smart but she still hasn’t learned the very valuable lesson in life to be able to take the high road and be above even noticing that kind of bad behaviour and if she is FORCED to notice it to act with panache love and grace and humility and to welcome them into her circle.

It means this girl while book smart still hasn’t learned a few social rules of being a leader such as its so much easier to have people like you by giving them a small piece of genuine positive attention rather then gossip about them to the general public as if she’s some kind of famous person when she’s just a regular old nerd girl that nobody has heard of beyond her small social circle.

It probably also means she ALSO hasn’t learned that its SO much fucking easier to genuinely ignore the haters on a deep base and absolute level then give them a fucking second of her time because on some weird fucked up level she enjoys that people hate her and she has to learn that kind of behaviour leads to bad places that in the end you are just better off not going to, and its a lot better of an idea to not make public statements drawing attention to their hate and her noticing of and on some level enjoying because she hasn’t learned yet that you just cannot win that game as much as tiktok or facebook will tell her otherwise because those corporate entities thrive on hate bullshit such and she hasn’t figured out she’s just serving an overlord when she buys into that crap when she could just be enjoying her life being pretty and nerdy and nice and feminine like Elle Woods.

Because in the end it sounds like this girl probably hasn’t learned that you don’t talk shit about those who talk shit about you because you end up just talking shit and now you’re just as bad as those shit talkers talking shit. You get me?

If no one warned you that you won’t appeal to everyone and that someone out there will find a reason to hate you for absolutely no goddamned reason, then I’m here to tell you that.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the warning.

    Here.

If you are alive, some people are going to hate you.

You’re never going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s a good thing.

  8. stonerbutchblues Avatar

They’re going to hate you because you’re a woman.

Because no matter what, if you’re pretty/ugly, feminine/masculine, smart/stupid, nerdy/cool… it doesn’t matter. Some people are gonna hate you. Some people won’t give you a single thought.

Remember, hate is not the opposite of love, indifference is.

No matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, some people are always going to resent and/or hate you on the very basis of what you do/don’t do, never mind that it’s feminine. There is really no such thing as a unanimously popular type/stereotype. The standards are raised and barbed especially when you’re a woman.

Everyone is hated by someone. Some people just live to hate. Their hatred is not a statement on who you are, though. It’s a statement on who they are.

    1. Literally this stereotype is absolutely played out in media, so idk wtf you mean
    2. Every single type of woman archetype in media gets hate.
    3. Every type of woman IRL gets hate for existing – idk why you think you’re somehow special for experiencing this? There is literally a r/womenintech that I follow and it’s terrible what they go thru.

TLDR: Stop acting like you’re somehow extra special – we all get hated for being women, for being in tech, for being nerdy, for being derogatory or dressing a certain way, for wearing too much makeup, for wearing no makeup…

    It’s not a fucking competition.

I mean, this sounds like me and I’m autistic and people definitely hate me for being autistic. I am gifted, and of a generation where autism was overlooked in girls, so I didn’t know until I was 36. It explains the lifelong consistent rejection I experienced despite being smart and beautiful.

  15. Regular_Dance_6077 Avatar

They’ll hate you no matter what, so best to just live your life the way you want 🙂

  16. Angiogenics Avatar

People who hate women hate you because you’re a woman, and not because of some arbitrary traits like physical appearance or interests. You can be masculine, ugly, and into all of those same things, or be the most normal and unassuming looking person ever and they’ll still hate you because you’re a woman.

  17. hiimcass Avatar

Befriend the nerdy men, the alike woman will be there too

    Thick skin helps, a lot

Don’t stoop to the level of petty, it’ll backfire

    Most importantly, keep being you!!!!

There’s nothing that women can be into that won’t get hate from someone.

  19. Gungirlyuna Avatar

People hate on you no matter what. Haters are gonna hate

  20. Saturn-Returns-Real Avatar

Probably because thats a really needlessly demotivating thing to tell a young woman who is just beginning to figure out who she is and what she likes.

  21. censorized Avatar

Did you expect that the prettiness would overcome the negative connotations ascribed to smart and/or nerdy women? Sounds like you were surprised you don’t get a pretty pass. Or am I misunderstanding your inference here?

  22. IsaystoImIsays Avatar

People love to hate because they can’t cope with their own issues. Its the way the world is currently.

Do your thing, people are gonna be mad no matter what you do.
