Wasn’t from one specific person, but when I first went bald, several people told me I cleaned up nicer than when I had a full head of hair. That felt pretty good.
“Can I be one of your kids. I feel safe and you help me. I want a hug”.
Said by a particularly violent patient that is known to kick, bite, scratch and headbutt. His name used to strike anxiety in staff since he was so prone to sudden bouts of violence towards himself and others.
I have a decent rapport with him probably stemming from the fact that I have the size and strength to match him and was more willing to risk approaching him or engaging him without waiting for more help when he would try to harm himself.
He had been exhibiting signs of an impending outburst so I was called to see if I could figure out if it was safe to round on him. He gave me good indicators and we carefully did the checks. I escorted the tech in.
I asked if he was bored and he agreed he wanted TV on. Found cartoons. Damn near broke my heart when he asked if I had kids and followed up that answer with what was written.
We did find him a better group home. The curse of my job is getting to know some of them well enough.
He did get his hug albeit cautiously and with 2 other people standing outside the room holding their breath.
When someone says “Thank you” with that truly grateful and thankful voice.
It’s a low bar, but it means I get compliments most days. Better to fill the soul.
I like making people’s day.
Best part, I can give the same compliment back to other people who help me (regardless of how small the gesture) and they smile back in appreciation. Two great feelings in one day.

When I hear from women that that they feel comfortable around me quickly
3 years ago some random woman in Walmart told me she loved my hair. One of the only compliments I’ve gotten that I’ve actually believed.
“you look like you should be famous” and this was said by an 8 year old with such simplicity, I still feel it
You have a beautiful smile.
I look younger than I am.
Currently 36. Looking more like 28-30.

Nice work, you have a good posture now

You’re way too strong for how small you look in real life.
You’re so handsome, you’ll make beautiful babies.

“Your a good man”
Not the same as “your a nice guy”
Once was told I have kind eyes. Been riding that high for 14 years now

You can ride that high all day, every day.
