Had an embarrassing moment yesterday and am wondering how bad it really is.

r/

Hello gentlemen. I’m a 35 year old man and not gonna lie, I have let myself go the last few years or so. I realize I need to lose weight but it’s just been an internal battle with depression and overworking myself at my job and what not. Construction fucking sucks.

I went to go grab a drink at a local pub yesterday. Kinda of a hole in the wall dive bar. I sat at a bar top and there was an open back seat. I hung out there for a few hours with a couple of my construction buddies watching whatever the bartender had
On the TV.

There was a cover band playing and I went on Instagram to see who it was. I randomly decided to venture to their tagged photos (basically you can see random people’s pics who tagged the bar’s Instagram page).

Well, lo and behold, I’m in the background of some photos and you can see I’m sporting a major plumber’s crack while sitting at the bar… literally in front of everyone at the bar.

I knew I had let myself go but not to the extent that I was the fat guy with a plumber’s butt. I’m “that” guy now.

I’m also very embarrassed because I sat in that spot for several hours and had NO clue half my butt was on display. I am sure it was an eye sore as I’m also a very hairy guy. I am a regular at this bar and I know a lot of people there and saw them yesterday. Nobody said anything to me about it, not even my buddies I was there with.

Again, I am very embarrassed. Do you think anybody cared or made fun of me? This is definitely a reality check but I just get very bright red in the face thinking about this.

Nobody cares as much as you.

  3. odkfn Avatar

Yeah nobody will care but a good time to do something about it so you have a body you’re proud of. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of your body, but it’s super important to be comfortable in your own skin!

Don’t overthink it. Just find a different seat next time.

Everyone looked and stopped thinking about it the second they looked away. Wake up call for you though…it took me seeing my fat gut in a tagged photo to decide to get in shape.

Nothing wrong with showing a little cleavage!

  7. beseeingyou18 Avatar

This is a bit of a wake-up call.

I wouldn’t worry about what anyone else thought, the main point here is that you didn’t like it, which suggests you would like to change things so that it doesn’t happen again.

It sounds like you could do with a new job. Are you able to look around? Even telling yourself you’re planning to leave will give you a psychological boost.

Regarding the weight and the drinking, I don’t know what things are like in the US, but UK doctors would definitely help with this. These issues are actionable and interventions save the NHS lots of money downstream, since weight and alcohol cause all sorts of issues in the long-term. Given that, I’d speak with a doctor about wanting to lose weight – they may have resources to help you.

It also sounds like you need to take a look at the life you have. What would you do every day if you had a job that paid you enough to pay the mortgage, to buy food, clothes, etc.? Is that job similar to what you’re doing now or totally different? What would be the first step to getting this new job?

Give yourself the day to wallow, but resolve to take action tomorrow. That way you’re one step closer to where you want to be, and one step further away from where you don’t want to be.

Edit: Construction is well known for being terrible for mental health. Don’t neglect that side of things either. Perhaps it’s something to raise with the doctor as well, or to another medical professional?

Nobody saw, or cared. And if they did, they don’t even remember now.

People probably did make fun of you.

Which says something about them, and absolutely nothing about you.

Bodies change. With time, with stress, because of injuries, sometimes for better, and sometimes for worse.

This is an opportunity to build a stronger relationship with your body. You can embrace it, all it does for you, how it holds all your best memories and carries you through each day. And if in embracing it you find you want to do more to nurture it, all the better.

I don’t think so, we all come in different shapes and sizes, the way you tell the story did make me chuckle though 🙏

ps… at least you actually have a butt, mine is so skinny it’s practically invisible which can also be embarrasing cos my lower body is almost non existent 🤷‍♂️😆

    get some longer T-shirts

  11. Stunning-Space-2622 Avatar

Yes, sorry but they probably made fun of you while they were there but now that the moment has passed, no body cares or remembers. Take care of your self, your still young and things like being over weight will start to catch up one way or another.

lol no one cares man I assure you. wear a belt

No one cares more than you lol but hopefully the wake up call you wanted?

Also if your job sucks it’s never too late to learn a new trade and or skill. Follow your heart and do what you love.

    Good luck be safe.

Nobody cared as much as you, but if anyone saw it they absolutely made fun of it.

Make sure you let your friends know “If I ever have a boogie in my nose, bad breath, or my crack is out let me know.”

Also, I have an extremely long “crack” so much so that it peaks out when I am wearing normal shorts and boxers. I make sure I wear an undershirt (tucked in) at all times. I never have to worry about it again.

    Nobody cares. But you should

  17. Fuzzy-Constant Avatar

I’d be embarrassed too but it’s not like it makes you a bad person or anything. Just figure out how to dress the body you have now and you can try to change it if you want to. It’s hard and almost everybody fails at losing and maintaining, depression or not. Go easy on yourself!

  18. finaderiva Avatar

It’s fine. But we all have excuses to not get in shape, you just have to do it anyways. That’s what discipline is, despite your reasons and excuses to continue doing what you are doing you just start doing something different. No matter what you think or feel you just go

  19. Yeppie-Kanye Avatar

Ah shit happens.. for now get yourself some fitting pairs of pants and try to work on your physique if you really feel like it

I favor Oshkosh b’Gosh overalls in traditional denim as my favorite crack spackle.

  22. elfarmax Avatar

Man, the way you describe it its hilarious 😆.
Maybe a lot of people notices but everyone probably forgot about it, except for the owner of the pic. Plumbers crack 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  23. sowokeicantsee Avatar

    Photos are rough….
Just go get on Ozempic and hit the gym and diet..

I had to lose some wieght and hit the gym a few years ago, ngl, its not easy…
It was a total lifestyle change and it was difficult..

Even to this day i just dont buy chips, and softdrinks andd snacks for home, if you dont have it you cant eat it,

Many years on, i still miss those snacks, however, its also nice not to have a fat gut…

  24. driftingthroughtime Avatar

As long as nobody flipped a penny or spitball in there, I’d count it as a win.

For what it’s worth, I have found that suspenders are the ultimate solution to keeping plumbers crack away. But, then, of course, you are the “suspender” guy.

  25. Wineguy33 Avatar

Sir, we have all seen a man’s hairy ass before.

  26. FeatureOk548 Avatar

Your buddies probably didn’t say anything because they probably didn’t notice

  27. NoOneStranger_227 Avatar

Actually, it was a photo just like that (well, okay, no crack, but everything else as clear as day) that was the ass-kicking I needed to get myself back on track.

So take that photo, get a printout, hang it in your bedroom, and never ever look back.

Oh, and if you think you’re the only butt to crack at that bar, you’re delusional.

  28. Acceptable_Durian868 Avatar

I love the support of the other guys, but i don’t think they’re right. People notice, and people judge. I have a friend who’s notorious for plumbers crack. We were at a bar once and a group of young guys on a table near us started making jokes about it. We all had a good laugh, because he’s good natured about it, but they went on and on, and he started getting really uncomfortable. Eventually had to do the Dad thing and shut them down.

I think that if you’re not okay with it and feeling self conscious, then it’s time to wear a belt, longer shirts, and to start taking a bit better care of yourself.

Or lean into it and be comfortable being that guy.

  29. Ru-tris-bpy Avatar

I know a guy that was caught in the background of some concert photos and all the people were asking what was up with the hitler looking guy in the back? I’ll take as crack bs people thinking I look like hitler lol

  30. HighOnGoofballs Avatar

Yes people noticed. Sounds like the kick in the plumbers crack you needed to change your horrible ways of treating your body

  31. Mundane_Reality8461 Avatar

Every time I’ve seen another man’s crack I’ve never made of them. I don’t point it out.

I check my own pants and move on
