Calling the Cops on A Landlord

Location: New Jersey

My landlord is also my neighbor. Every now and then I hear him and his kids getting into shouting matches. However, recently I overheard one of the kids shouting “don’t hit me!” and “ow, stop it!” and other things that make me believe the arguments have become physical. I don’t know how old the kid is but he’s a teenager. Not that that should matter.

I don’t know what to do, because I don’t want to stand by while a kid in being abused, but I’m afraid to report my landlord.

Are there any repercussions I could face by calling the cops on my landlord? Are there any legal protections I have in a situation like this?
