Men of Reddit, what was your ‘let’s just be friends’ experience with someone you were totally into—bonus points if it was painfully awkward?

As a gay guy, getting feelings for a straight friend in high school.
It happens to most gay guys at some point, and it’s a mistake we usually don’t make ever again lol
Totally into them, and they said let’s just be friends?
Literally anytime that happened It was painfully awkward.
I was fine with being just friends, because all my friends live hundreds of miles away from me and I could use some local ones.
She said she’d hit me up to hang out, and never did. I was pretty disappointed, but not really surprised. It kinda felt like I was calling her bluff the whole time.
Yep. When that happened, I ended up sleeping with their mom.
There was this colleague and we started talking, conversations were great, used to talk till late night. Day usually started with a goodmorning text and ended with a goodnight text. I can tell she was into me, she kinda addressed ‘more than friendship’ once but I needed more time for clarity, things were still good, nothing changed, then I gathered courage, asked her out, she didn’t reply, after a day she told me we should ‘just be friends’, hurt like a bitch, but we still use to talk so I let it go, one day we were in elevator alone, we hugged and she gave me a look, in next few minutes we full on made out in parking lot, it was amazing. I asked her out again post that, guess what, ‘just be friends’ and ‘we shouldn’t do that again’. Hurt like hell, heart kinda just got shattered. It’s never nice. Not when you know the person well, not when you don’t. It’s just sad.
