I used to steal 1-2 items every time I went grocery shopping

r/

Especially as a broke college student, I would buy all my groceries for the week and leave 1-2 items in the cart as I was doing self checkout. I would be too scared to do anything real expensive, but usually it would be like a $5-10 items. In my mind, if my groceries for the week were around $75-100, it was like getting a 10% discount each time – not a bad deal. I did this for about 2-3 years and never got caught.

In the event of possibly getting stopped, I figured I could just tell the store I accidentally left the item(s) in my cart, which seemed reasonable given that I already spent a fair amount of money on the rest of my groceries.

Since then, I have a real job and can more comfortably afford groceries. Plus, I order my groceries online, so I can’t use this method anymore.

Edit: should clarify, this was done only from multiple different large corporations

If the store is too lazy to hire staff and chooses to make the customer do its job for them well then it’s free

As long as it’s from a big company, I fully condone this. In fact, STEAL MORE!!!

As long as it’s not from a mom and pop, I encourage it lol.

I remember as a child once, someone broke it my moms car when we were in the grocery store. All they took was some change. They then went into the store and got caught trying to steal cheese and bread. Police got involved, idk how them breaking into my mom’s van became known but I do remember my mom not wanting to press any charges. She taught me a lesson that day. The man was stealing cheese and bread… not steak and lobster. He was likely struggling, really damn bad. No sense in making a hard time, even harder. So whenever I see people stealing items like that from stores I turn into Ray Charles, I don’t see shit quick edit: like big chain groceries, such as Walmart. I’ve never witnessed theft in a small shop

Stealing is stealing. Don’t justify taking a penny. Not condemning, but don’t lie to yourself it’s better because it’s a big corporation

I never say anything when I see people doing this. I’ve even run interference a few times. Like the time the lady had a huge thing of diapers on the bottom of her cart- I sure needed the MOST help that day! Excuse meeee, these self-checks are just impossible and I’ve tried to scan this item four times and have no idea why it’s not working please help me RIGHT NOW!!

I’ve also never seen people stealing like that in small shops. I believe that it’s often entitled people who do it for the thrill who steal from small businesses and it’s more often those of us struggling who are stealing damn groceries and toilet paper from a Meijer.

Your confession is basically shit everybody does.

I actually used to do the same. A lot of the times I could still pay for something just less. Like scanning a bag of fries twice instead of fries and the other item. I feel bad about it but at the same time it’s hard. I get that’s part of the reason prices are rising (a very small part and at this point more of an excuse than anything to raise them more than actually needed to run)

NEVER local or smaller places, but huge corporations charging $10 for a crappy frozen item? While they have a private jet? Hmm

The only problem here is those self checkout cameras keep tabs on you. Once you get to an amount that equals grand theft, they will take you to court.

This is terrible and the people in here condoning it because it was from a corporation and not a mom n pop tells a lot about the moral and ethical state of America. OP, you should be ashamed of yourself, and the rest of you should too.

I don’t understand this attitude. Stealing is stealing. If you can’t afford it you don’t get it it isn’t an excuse to steal. There are food banks that will help you if you don’t have enough money for food.churches and other places if you need other help. It is ever ok to steal. Are you ok with someone stealing your tv if they don’t have one?

I seriously don’t feel bad for these corporations my only concern is the grocery store adding up all the items you stole until it reaches a felony amount so they can charge you. I wouldn’t judge you even if you still did it because this economy is a fucking joke. Idc, I do not scan the organic option and put in a cheaper option when purchasing fresh fruit because I can’t afford it any other way and I might get judged for that lol. But I don’t care 😂 my baby LOVE them gigantic organic strawberries and imma get em everytime. I’m so happy you’re doing much better now btw ♥️

I’ve never cared about people stealing essential items. We shouldn’t need to be stealing food. I might wince an eyebrow at people boosting makeup. I still don’t gaf… these corporations are out of line and Idgaf about them anymore.

Stealing from greedy mass corporations isn’t stealing. ✨
