kids using makeup and heat styling their hair daily is outrageous

r/

the amount of videos I see on social media of young girls (like 6-10 years old) having full faces of makeup and excessive multi-step skincare routines is so shocking to me. but the daily heat styling of hair is what’s really getting me. I totally understand young girls wanting to feel grown up by playing with makeup and that’s fine, but the fact they have brand names and every makeup step needed is just too much. I see so many videos of parents getting their kids ready for school and they’ll use a curling wand, like every day. Its gonna ruin their hair, idc how much heat protectant is used. you can see their hair already becoming damaged. a 9 year old has no business having heat damaged hair. Where has childhood gone? I feel like a boomer saying that (I’m only 27) but it’s true😭

I definitely think it’s a sad result of consumerism. Not using resourceful products and using all of the product. It’s very much about the brand and social feeling. It’s a slight failure on the mother’s part for enabling.
Playing with make up is not a problem at all. It’s the lingering side effects of social media and expectations.
