What do you do when on your period & you have to pee?

r/

Do you hold the string out of the way? Wipe and hope for the best? Use a pad/cup/disk? Also, what happens when you use a cup/disk?

I just keep my tampon string tucked up inside until it’s time to remove the whole tampon. I figured everybody who wore tampons also did that.

Tuck the string between my lips.

I use a cup, so I just pee and wipe when I’m done.

If I use a tampon for whatever reason, just tuck the string up inside and it lives there until I need to pull it out.

I change tampons every time I use the bathroom.

I started wearing tampons less after one got stuck up there lol. But now when I do I change my tampon every time i’d pee

Disc. My disc automatically empties out when I pee. Then I do couple kegels to put it back to place. Then done.

I have never done anything to move it. pee, wipe, done. I’ve never accidentally pulled the string. Even if pee has gotten on the string, I always wash my hands after removing.

    I use pads so I just… pee?

i use a disc on heavy days. it doesnt interfere with going to the bathroom for me at all. some discs can self wmoty when you go pee, but the one i use doesnt always. when it does, i just make sure to wipe extra well and go about my day. on lighter days i just wear a pad/pantyliner.

tampon: tuck the string if it’s been less than ~4 hours

cup or disc: just pee normally, empty if needed, which is way less frequently than I need to change a tampon

    Pee. Period panties ftw!

I use a cup on heavy days with period underwear for leak protection, cos sometimes it can get a little messy. I empty my cup whenever I go to the bathroom 🙂 I feel like when you pee, it’s a nice time to try to get some of that excess blood out either way. When I was using tampons, on heavy days I had to change them almost every time I went to pee, but found the cup to be easier most times after getting used to how it worked. I could always feel my tampons but I forget that I have a cup in.

I always change my tampon when I use the bathroom

I use a cup, so there’s really nothing to be done. It’s out of the way, so no issue. A heavy flow day is handled basically the same as a tampon.

For me, the thing that can make things tricky is pooping. The wrong push can create a shift in the cup, and will cause a minor discomfort around the cervix, but it just needs a slight adjustment and I’m good to go.

I use pads so it’s never an issue

    I wear period panties, exclusively.
They are super absorbent. I don’t have to worry about a string or anything.

  17. Spiritual_Lemonade Avatar

    We pee from different holes.

If you have a cup or disk it’s up around your cervix.

    Get a mirror

Period underwear. I’m a recent convert, it’s genuinely been life-changing during that week.

I use pads but if I do use tampons I either tuck and wipe off the string if it’s not full or change it entirely.

I trim the string when I first insert it so that it’s flush with my body. That thing is waaay too long and annoying anyways. (I’ve done this for 25 years with no problems.)

I change my pad basically every time I pee so idk

I used cups until i got an iud other wise I use pads (I actually use all cloth because I’m allergic to the bleaching agents in paper products). Tampons make period cramping and pain worse but cups did not. I never tried a disk but it works well for many people. I pee like every hour or more so even if I did like tampons they would be cost prohibitive for me. I would have to change it every time I owe bc I won’t have using against my skin.

I don’t usually pee that frequently and I use a pad. So, most of the time I change it every time. Few years ago, I was able to not change the pad every time I peed.
But now I cannot stand using the same pad, especially on heavy flow days. So, I’m guilty of either holding my pee in or changing to a new pad! 😕😓😶😐🫤
I want to try cup/disc. Bought them both but have fear for using them. I heard some kinds empty while peeing.
And tried tampons 1-2 times, could not adjust to the feeling of taking it out. 😥

I used pads because I always hated how tampons felt and it didn’t seem to matter what I did, the string was always getting pee on it and gross, so I had to change it every time I peed, which was a nuisance at times. I’ve long since discovered that my urethra is just much more an “innie” than may be common – it is right inside my vagina (which also helped explain my issue with frequent UTIs).

I was using a cup for a very short while before I got my IUD and then my periods became light enough for a few years that I didn’t need anything anymore except maybe a liner occasionally for breakthroughs. I’ve since had a hysterectomy due to severe adeno pain that my IUD was no longer controlling, so no more dealing with the pain and mess aspects of periods for me. 🙂

I tuck the string off to the side, towards the back.

I use and pad cause they scare me lol

I use a menstrual cup and have never have to remove it unless its time to empty it . I have peed , pooped with the cup and thats honestly the best part about it . When I was using tampons, I would wait for 6-7 hours till it was time to change again so travelling or going out anywhere for long hours was dreadful..
    Menstrual cup is a saviour

I only need to pee every 3-4 hours, sometimes longer. But I hold the string, pee, and then change it. Maybe it’s just me, but tampon always gets soaked with pee so I end of changing it anyways. 🤷‍♀️

I use a cup so no big deal
