The moment you remember you’re breathing, it stops being automatic—like your body says, ‘Oh, you’re in charge now? Go ahead.

Why would you do this to me now I can’t breathe right
I’m really starting to think the “manually breathing” thing is just an awareness of breathing, not really taking control. When I see the meme it feels kinda weird to acknowledge my breathing, but my lungs just kinda keep going at the same pace
This crap, blinking, hearing your heart, stomach noises, etc. Basically anything that’s essentially automated once you notice it’s happening then to attempt to control it, everything is ruined…

… and that will go on for like 10-15 seconds, and it gets back to automatic – you start thinking about something else.
This happens to me when I think about my tongue. Once I’m aware of it, I never know where to put it.
One of my favorite forms of meditation is focusing entirely on your breath while still allowing it to remain automatic. It’s very tricky but once you get it, it’s incredibly peaceful.
i think it happens because we notice it , and hence we feel like we are the one doing it, but normally it happens in the background
Great now I’m gonna spiral. Every time I think about my breathing I hyperfixate on it and convince myself I’m having an asthma attack but its actually now an anxiety attack. Let me remember that I can see my nose and feel my clothes too
Never happens to me.
I guess I’m just built different?
Not technically true, even when you’re aware of your breathing, the least strenuous thing to do is just to continue breathing as usual. You’re just observing it.
I’m a natural nose breather, but because of my allergies, my nose gets clogged often, so whenever that happens I start breathing manually through my mouth anyway
I used to have this when i was a kid, but at some point it stopped being a thing. No other adults i talk to ever know what i’m talking about!
