In action films, why don’t killers ever stand trial afterwards for their crimes?

r/

I’m thinking specifically here of ‘Taken 2’ when Liam Neeson kills all the guards on the boat to get to his daughter’s abductor. Once he’s knocked them all off, the happy ending shows him walking through US passport control, with his daughter, safe and sound. If he killed all those people, why doesn’t he have to stand trial for murder? I get that James Bond has a licence to kill, but that’s not the case with a lot of other action films. Are the directors asking us to stretch credulity just a bit too far?

I think Civil War is one of the only action movies that deals with this…

Cause it’s better to put them in an easily escapable cell with incompetent guards so they can get out and be pursued and killed by our hero.

I’m guessing because it’s an action film. In a dramatic film, the opposite often happens. Briefly shows the action, then the rest of the film is the legal repercussions.

So you’re okay with the “certain set of skills” being sufficient to deal with the kidnapping, etc., but that same set of skills is not sufficient to get out of the country safely without dealing with legal issues?

It’s a movie and not real life. In real life the trial would be debated on self defense which includes the defense of others. So would he be justified in killing all those people to save his daughter’s life? In real life he would end up broke from paying lawyers and get off or go to prison.

Same reason they usually don’t show protagonists taking bathroom breaks inbetween fighting bad guys. Nobody gives a shit.
