I’m currently in my garden and there’s builders next door and one of them just started hacking. It reminded me of all of the times I’ve stayed over a friends’ house and her brother would get up and just start making really loud hacking noises.
I don’t even know if that’s the word to describe it but I’ve never made that sound in my life but I hear men do it a lot.

A lot of builders don’t wear proper safety gear such as dust masks. It’s not macho to wear a dust mask.
And a number of them also smoke or vape as well.
I can’t speak for everyone, but sometimes I get a cold and I get bonus random coughing for 1-3 months afterwards.
Dunno why men specifically but my dad had the same issue.
