As an American unfortunately it’s not really Russia destabilizing it but the United States as well as other western powers. While Russia invaded Ukraine it had it’s reasons to do so we have to look at reasonably even if we believe them to be wrong. Meanwhile the United States weaponized the SWIFT global payment system which was a massive shift in global trust.
Second the Great Game or global power politics has been going on a long time. Countries make moves against each other years in advance even when they may be on seemingly friendly terms. The global mono-polar world where the USA dominated was dying and a new multi-polar world is going to emerge. In this world old regional powers are attempting to reassert themselves while new ones will take a shot at rising (look at Turkey).
We’re about to enter an age of instability & war. Buckle up.
Destabilizing the globe is a symptom, not the goal. The goal is to restore the Russian empire, and secure Putin’s place at the top. There’s two sides to that:
The military side: These are the wars of conquest that Russia engages in. Whether that be the invasions of countries like Ukraine and Chechnya, or support for its proxy dictatorships in places like Syria. Their military is a joke, but it is the tool Russia uses to expand its borders.
-The internet side. This is the bit where Russia really is dangerous and destabilizing. As part of Putin’s strategy to keep himself in power, his regime devised a strategy to essentially eliminate the concept of truth. They counter every truth with a lie that is often indistinguishable from the truth, and use this to turn analysis of factual events into matters of opinion. A great example of this is the “little green men” that invaded Ukraine after the revolution. Russia sent soldiers into Ukraine without insignia, and then claimed that the soldiers were not Russian. So essentially, they invaded a neighbor, but rather than this being a fact, they turn it into a matter of opinion. When nothing can be believed and everyone is lying to you, what follows is cynicism and disengagement. So this disinformation strategy has played a big role in quashing opposition and dissent in Russia.
Unfortunately for the world, Russia decided to turn this internet strategy on the world, to try and undermine western governments. Like how do you counter the little green men if it’s a matter of opinion as to whether or not they were even Russian? So they desperately try to feed us this misinformation to cut support out from under politicians that are antagonistic to Russia. And it goes further than that, because Russia wants to undermine the entire state of its enemies. In the 2016 election cycle, two Russian Facebook groups, one appearing to be a conservative American page, and one appearing to be an American Muslim page, set up events at the same location at the same time. The result was pretty heated.
By contributing to the division and hatred in the US, they empower movements that are not antagonistic to Russia. In that case, it was Trump. But the goal is not to get their guy in office and try to control the US government or anything like that. They just want the US to be busy fighting its own slapfights and weakening itself, because that gives them a world where they can continue to invade and spread misinformation without being held accountable. So that is the “why.”
To try and take over the world!! There is a strenght in unity. So things like EU must be destroyd. If you read “foundation of geopolitics” on wikipedia you will see that Brexit was dream of Russia. Didn’t work out that well for Britain tho. Because unity is strenght!
Russia is weak. By weakening it’s rivals, it becomes stronger, in relation.
By breaking up NATO, Russia becomes the largest military in Europe.
At least, until the European members of NATO recommit and bury Russian military size.
Ond thing Russia has been very busy ignoring is the long, lightly defended border with the largest military in the world, run by another expansionistic power with serious environmental and living space issues.
1.Because their leader is evil.
2.Because he wants to rebuild the Russian empire lost when the Soviet Union collapsed
3.He does not believe Ukraine has a right to exist
Russia is just on the news a lot, because of the western anti Russian bias. Russia has nothing to do with Israel/Gaza conflict, Russia has nothing to do with Inddia/Pakistan conflict, Russia has nothing to do qith future China/Taiwan conflict. Russia has nothing to do with horrible conflicts in Africa.
They lost the Cold War. They know, realistically, they cannot reclaim their perch as a global super power. BUT they can at least ensure there is no other global super power who can casually fuck with Russia’s shit in Russia’s own backyard.
The one thing that’s free and nearly unlimited is human stupidity and gullibility. They’re just taking advantage of this to bring as many countries down to their level as they can for as little of an investment as possible. For the price of one MBT, a roadmap to authoritarian governance, and some kompromat you can buy 10 or 15 American politicians. Each of them will drag along a few more. The same amount goes even further in less developed countries.
Demographics and economy. Russia’s demographics are awful, a collapsing birthrate only rivaled by some countries in east Asia, countries that have either a larger population and/or a larger economic base to fall back on as they age rapidly. Which brings us to the economy, Russia’s economy is basically just minerals and especially oil. The long term prospects of which aren’t guaranteed as the world attempts, to varying degrees of success, to pivot off of fossil fuels. So if you are Russia your long term prospects are grim. What you do have however is an army of trolls and at least on paper a large army and military capabilities. However even that won’t be around forever, see the previous sentence on demographics. So for Russia it’s now or never, if they cannot seize a lot of land and resources and population now they will never get a second bite at the apple as it were.

As shit as Russia is, you should be more concerned with the USA destabilizing the globe.
A lot of the world doesn’t like Russia. Russia keeping a lot of the world focused on other things keeps them from focusing too much on Russia
When you’re at the bottom, shaking things up gives you a chance to move up.
misery loves company
Its leader is dying and does not believe in afterlife so nothing to lose
They’re interested in whats best for russia so they are doing it
Russia has a long history of imperialism, dating back centuries. An expansionist foreign policy bodes well for domestic propaganda.

I’d argue America is currently destabilizing the world to a greater degree
So that people in power in Russia get to keep power.

Because Russia above all else desires power.
Putin wants to snuff out democracy wherever he sees it and wants to restore the old Russian empire.

It’s like the end of the godfather if you have to restart might as well make all the other players have to restart too
Chaos is a ladder.
The history of the world for the past 100 years can be attributed to Russia trying to get a freshwater port
NATO got too close to their borders they felt like they need to push back
1.Because their leader is evil.
2.Because he wants to rebuild the Russian empire lost when the Soviet Union collapsed
3.He does not believe Ukraine has a right to exist

So yeah, you’re just fixated on Russia.
They lost the Cold War. They know, realistically, they cannot reclaim their perch as a global super power. BUT they can at least ensure there is no other global super power who can casually fuck with Russia’s shit in Russia’s own backyard.
Russia or America

Boris and Natasha wish to destabilize world bc they can.
Putin is very sad that the USSR is no longer the superpower it was a
He’s waging (and has arguably) won the Cold War.
Chaos is a ladder.

Putin never got over losing Cold War One. His methods may be calculated, but his goals are sheer madness.
