Stop putting big energetic dogs in apartments

r/

My apartment seems to have a growing amount of large dogs with owners who go to work and they clearly don’t want to be trapped in here. One clawed a hole in the door. Multiple won’t stop howling or whimpering. Any zoomies they get sound like a stampede. One guy was even beating his dog for “doing too much”. He got evicted and I believe reported to animal control.

While I understand you want the dog you want and big dogs often need the most adopting, they aren’t happy in apartments where they have no space to do anything. Get them a yard.

Or simply train your dog at all. Just because you have it on a leash doesn’t mean it’s well-behaved.

It’s crazy how many people have dogs that shouldn’t.

One starts barking which triggers the other and then there just barking at eachother through the thin ass walls 😭

I definitely see you point. I could see a couple exceptions though. First, if the owners are willing to put in the effort to make sure that their dog is fully exercised. It’s a lot harder in an apartment but if the dog is getting several long walks or runs or getting long stretches of time in a sizable dog park regularly, I could see it working. The other exception would be big dogs that are older. A 9 or 10 year old dog probably isn’t going to need that much exercise.

That being said definitely agree that a lot of people aren’t that responsible about it and aren’t being fair to the dog.

So the guy beating his dog should be charged for animal abuse.

The other dogs need more enrichment (e.g. toys) and exercise (e.g. walks or taking them to the dog park.). Not providing these things can be legally considered animal neglect depending on the case.

Also, these dogs don’t seem to be very well-trained, if they are trained at all.

    I’d take a energetic, hundred pound, Golden…over a 5lb yappy dog….

The dog weight limit should be lowered…though that still doesn’t really filter out hyper dogs

I feel bad for the dogs. People get them and their lifestyle just isn’t very dog friendly. I hate when people don’t take good care of animals that they assume responsibility for.
