There’s a cocktail hour, the guests tour the exhibition, and I imagine there’s a dinner. After that there’s likely performances and drinks, and an after party. It’s likely fairly similar to any charity dinner, just more publicity.
I truly don’t understand all of the media hype surrounding it. A bunch of A-Listers dress up in clothes that 99.9% of Americans could never afford to buy in order to raise money for a museum that 99.9% of Americans will never visit. And apparently they also eat a meal. I’ve got nothing against The Metropolitan Museum of Art or any other museum, but why does this particular event warrant wall-to-wall media coverage?
There’s a documentary called The First Monday in May which follows the process of organising the Met Gala, highly recommend if you want to see behind the scenes and the why’s etc

The Gala is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. After everyone shows off their outfits, they go inside and have dinner.
You get to meet Epstein’s replacement.
Definitely animal blood rituals, the equivalent of a night over with your girl bestie
