Do you have meal vouchers for work in your country and how much is it?

r/

I’m working for an Italian company . I noticed that in Italy the amount that I received for the meal vouchers is less than the minimum amount that have to be given in my home country (Turkey), and I got curious, how does it work in other countries?

This is not a standard in Germany, it has to be voluntarily offered by the employer or negotiated by the collective representation of the employees.

If it’s offered, it might give the company tax benefits.

It depends on what you mean. If I travel for work then I get my expences covered including food, it is also not unusual that I get a sandwich or meal if I attend a meeting during lunchtime.

But if I am at my workplace I have to pay for my food at the canteen. This is the general roule in Denmark as workers are taxed for the value of the food, if they are regularly receiving free lunch at work (with a few exceptions, eg. nursery workers ofthen get their food for free as they are expected to eat with the children as part of their job).

Most places will however subside their canteen, so as an employee you pay less for your food than what running the canteen actually costs.

We do, it’s offered almost in every company (no clue about blue collar jobs and services though).

Recently, a change was introduced that allows you to get it paid with your salary by wire transfer and it’s not a taxable income, so you basically get the half of the cost of one lunch offer every work day.

Before, they were given as vouchers emitted by companies like Sodexo, so you could spend them only at places where they did take those. Pretty scammy in my opinion, to emit basically what’s an alternative currency just for food. That’s gone now, fortunately.

It’s not much, but it’s more than zero.
