I’m a 20-year-old university student. Yesterday I staked out one of the back-to-back study tables in the library (each row has two tables, each table seats four). I sat at the second table, in the chair nearest the first table. About 20 minutes later two girls arrived and took the first table—one sat beside me leaving the chair next to me empy, the other sat directly across from me. We made brief eye contact a couple of times, nothing awkward, then they got up after an hour but left their things behind.
Thirty minutes after they left, I stood up to stretch and noticed one girl’s student ID face-up on the middle-edge of the table—perfectly positioned so I’d see it. It didn’t look like an accidental drop.
- Could deliberately leaving a student ID face-up on the edge of a library table be an intentional “notice me” signal?
- Is it acceptable to look someone up on Instagram using the name on a found student ID?

Be bold, what do you have to lose?
No, this is idiotic. No one would leave that on purpose for it to be lost or stolen or found by some weirdo and used to stalk them.
