What would you do? I’m on a train across from a Boomer and I saw him take a selfie with a woman a couple rows back centered in the frame and himself off to the side and partly out of the frame. Would you say something to him? To her? I used to scoff at people who posted about a situation they were unsure how to handle and now I get it.

“HEY THIS GUY IS TAKING PICS OF YOU”

I mean, it’s kinda creepy when someone snaps a pic of another person without them knowing, especially when they’re not even in the frame, and I think it’s worth thinking about whether to say something, even if it’s just to make sure they’re not doing something sketchy…
“HEY THERE MISTER WHY DID YOU JUST TAKE A PHOTO OF THAT LADY BEHIND YOU? DO YOU KNOW HER?” with people like that you gotta just call them out on it. Not saying anything lets them keep doing it.
“Why are you taking pictures of random women?” Then call him a creep.
So confession, when I was 14 I was drinking in a pub in Spain, this would have been 23 years ago, with a friend my age, there was a gorgeous bar maid, I snapped a couple of pictures of her with my shitty phone of the time, an adult man in broken English came over and had a go, telling us to delete them and it was direspectuful without her permission. Life Lesson learnt, old boomer probably never had that lesson, or more likely doesn’t care, either way, , I’d tell him off
“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING, CREEP”
That sounds a bit creepy for my liking.
I’m not sure what country you’re in, but as a train conductor in the UK, you can come and approach one of us.
It depends on the situation as to how we approach it because there’s “no expectation of privacy” on a train. However, since you mentioned it’s pictures of one person, I’d probably approach the person being photographed and discreetly ask them if they’d like to move carriages and then contact the British Transport Police if necessary.
Also, if you felt it was inappropriate or of a harassing nature. You can report it directly to the British Transport Police texting 61016. They do take sexual harassment seriously.
There’s been a case where I’ve arrived in Manchester Piccadilly before and was told not to release the train doors, and armed police have boarded because of a report texted in.
Unpopular opinion. Please. He might be taking a selfie only.
While there is no expectation of privacy in public, you could let her know.
Nothing. In the US the courts have ruled for decades that we have no right to privacy of our likeness in public. Today nearly every device possible has camera option available. The subway train, the stations traversed, and passing in front of businesses and private homes are all moments when our image is captured. Maybe he’s a creep. Maybe he has a weird recurring itch on his ear and wants a picture of it to see if there’s something visible irritating it. Unfortunately neither one is illegal. Upskirting? Downboobing? Both worthy of discretely telling the person being snapped about. But frankly what you described is just public photography
Laws on public image capture do differ in other countries however and reviewing your local laws is very wise
