In tv shows and memes i always see americans having bread(toast) in the fridge. Do you really only have this type of bread or are there more?

We have all the breads
There’s no universal answer to this, but what you’re describing is probably the most popular.
We have many types of bread. Sourdough, wheat, rye, potato, brioche, baguettes, boules, loaves, etc.
We don’t consider sliced bread “toast” until it is toasted. I’m guessing you’re German, I’ve heard this confusion before.
If you don’t live near a real bakery the bread does suck here. Fortunately I’m surrounded by good ones.
Not this again.
I mean how many different types of bread props are they going to use in a tv show lol
Bread shouldn’t be kept in the fridge.
Do my fellow Americans keep bread in the fridge?
We only have one type of bread (wonder), one type of cheese ( spray cheese from a can), one type of chocolate (hersheys)…
But none of that matters because we are required to eat cheeseburgers for every meal except Sunday dinner when we get to eat hotdogs, unless we want another cheeseburger.
We keep toast in the fridge?
Toast is bread that’s been toasted. It can be any bread. Plain American white bread is definitely common, and having eaten it is a fairly universal experience for everyone here, so it’s used in memes, tv, movies, etc. Go to any grocery store and you’ll see many types of bread though. Lots of local bakeries that you can get fresh bread at. In fact a lot of bigger chain grocery stores like HEB and even Walmart bake their own bread. It’s not as good as a proper bakery but better than the generic packaged stuff.
I keep mine in the freezer. I just take out the amount of frozen pieces I need, and wait for them to thaw. Good to go, and the bread lasts for a very long time
There are dozens of different types of bread in the US. We have tons of our own local styles, and you can also get a lot of global regional types of breads as well (challah, pita, roti, pao de queijo, etc).
Also… I’ve lived in the US for 44 years and have never heard of people keeping toast in the fridge. We usually keep sliced sandwich/pullman style loaves in the fridge that are commonly used for toast. Is that what you’re referring to? If you keep that type of bread in your fridge, you’d likely keep any other type there as well.
Some people prefer not to refrigerate bread and instead keep it in the pantry or in a bread box on the counter. I grew up in a room temp bread house, but my spouse is a fridge bread person. I was willing to compromise.
We have it all. TV is just a caricature of what Americans are like
I’m not sure I understand your question. Are you talking about pre-sliced loafs of bread? We certainly have that, but it’s not the only option. Major grocers will stock pre-sliced bread out of their on-site bakeries, and you can definitely get bread that hasn’t been sliced yet.
There are probably hundreds of different types of bread I can buy nearby in styles from all around the world – French, Italian, American, German, Jewish, Russian… there’s even a Japanese bakery very close to where I live.
There’s no shortage of bread here.
We have an abundance of breads. What you’ve been seeing is what is most popular for sandwiches.
I don’t understand the question, really. I keep bread in the fridge during summer so it doesn’t get moldy so fast from the heat and humidity.
Assuming by “toast” you mean sandwich or sliced bread, then yes, we have that and lots of other types of bread.
Huh?
I do keep bread in the fridge because it turns into a rock outside of the fridge at my high elevation.
Americans love pre-sliced sandwich style loaf bread so much we have an expression for when we think something is extra awesome: “the best thing since sliced bread.”
But we also have bakeries that produce a wide variety of breads that are more like what Europeans are accustomed to.
Unfortunately, the only bread we have is pre-sliced white bread.
>!Of course we have a wide variety of different bread types.!<
>In tv shows and memes i always see americans having bread(toast) in the fridge
huh?
>Do you really only have this type of bread or are there more?
of course we have more than one type of bread.
You mean sliced bread ?
I think we have 6 types of bread in the kitchen. Some can be toasted and others not. Toasted isn’t the only way, but toasted bread for breakfast and sandwiches is yummy for sure.
I think most Americans keep just sliced bread but we also have French bread when we do special menus. I get French bread when I prepared po boys. It’s a type of sandwich.
I think they might be talking about Texas Toast.

I rarely see bread kept in the fridge (and I mean rarely). Closest I get is some of the gluten-free bread my mom buys and that’s kept in the freezer (not entirely sure why; it’s even sold in the freezer section at the grocery stores). We usually keep our bread in a kitchen drawer or on the counter and it’s not toasted until we need it to be (we use a toaster or a multi-purpose toaster oven for that).
Wait people keep bread in the fridge?
Most of the time, I sorta alternate between buying pre-sliced whole wheat sandwich bread and making my own in a bread machine.
Either way, I store it at room temperature if I’m actively eating it or in the freezer if I’m not planning to eat it for a week or two. In my experience, the fridge is where bread goes to die.
But yes, there are many types of bread available here. And as others have said, we only refer to it as toast if it’s literally been toasted. 🙂
We have all of the breads one could want here.
Name a style of bread. Literally anything you can think of.
We have it (or a version of it) and much, much more.
This is what happens when you have people from virtually every nation on Earth moving to a single country and sharing their culture with everyone else.
The most common types of bread are pre-sliced white and wheat bread which are used for making everyday sandwiches.
But just about any grocery store will have dozens of types of bread, which will include numerous variations of white, wheat, multi-grain, rye, rice, corn and potato.
Finally, “toast” is what comes out of a toaster, a device that heats up, slightly dies and browns bread. It can also be made in an oven. It can be made with virtually any bread.
There are a ton of breads over here, but the stereotypical American bread is probably Wonder Bread. I haven’t had it since I was a little kid and I’m now in my 30s.
Google image search “American bread aisle” and you’ll see a typical selection.
And I’ve never seen anyone keep bread in the fridge, but I live in the northeast where it’s not super hot in the summer.
Show me a single show where toast is in a fridge.
Imagine thinking there’s only one type of bread in an entire country. 🙄
