I enjoy long flights

r/

I actually get more excited whenever I find out the flight im taking is a couple to tens of hours long.

It finally gives me the time to watch movies that I had no chance to watch due to my busy life. Plus being disconnected to the outside world is kinda nice as I have a good excuse to not reply to people immediately.

A long flight is basically just an isolated movie binge fest for me. It gives me an excuse to slack off and be unproductive.

Slap some noise cancelling headphones, snacks and a good neck rest and i’m all set.

I totally agree but don’t tell people because I know they’ll think I’m insane. Thank you for your bravery. I often am disappointed to land and wish the flight was longer.

I disagree completely, but… an ACTUAL unpopular opinion where the author isn’t insulting us or calling us stupid for disagreeing with them??? Take my upvote.

I disagree because I get antsy when I sit down for too long, I need to get up and walk around (my friends call me a dog because I need a walk to get rid of my zoomies).

I envy you. The smell in planes makes me immediately want to shrivel up and go into a coma for the duration of the flight.

  5. Who_am_ey3 Avatar

I like long flights too, only I don’t really do much during them. I download tons of movies, series, and games onto my laptop, and then I spend maybe 2 hours of my 13 hour flight actually using any of it.

  6. mrw4787 Avatar

I love my long commute to work for the same reason

  7. ICanStopTheRain Avatar

If I could afford business class and fly alone, I’d agree with you. But I’m tall, I have a kid, and coach is extremely uncomfortable.

  8. Apprehensive_Tip92 Avatar

I appreciate that I get to disconnect because I don’t fly as a part of my job often. That said, the actual flight is uncomfortable, being tall and stuff into a space that is inhumane for that long.

  9. al_sibbs Avatar

3-6 hours is peak flight time, less isn’t exciting enough and more just gets boring

  10. National_Parfait_450 Avatar

Nah, a long flight is torture to me. Invent teleportation already

  11. Winter-Drama4700 Avatar

In theory I agree, but i get so restless I can’t stand it 😅

  12. emmiepsykc Avatar

Only thing better is long bus rides. I enjoy the actual traveling part of traveling.

I am able to turn off the phone and ignore it for entire weekends. If I don’t answer people presume I am hiking and have no coverage. In reality I am sitting at home, playing video games eating peanut butter cups.

Remind me when you have a kid

  15. scallywagsworld Avatar

I agree but for different reasons. I get a kick out of how far I’m travelling. Going 100 kilometres in the car? Small dopamine hit. Going 12,000 kilometres in a plane? Massive dopamine hit. I’m obsessed with maxing out the number of kilometers I travel every day. When I wake up on the particular day I’m travelling I get excited. I love airports.
My life goal or career goal is not a monetary value, but rather to have an extremely high career odometer. That’s why I’m a truck driver and soon to be pilot

  16. shakeyshake1 Avatar

Surely you must have a private jet with a bed in it. Or book those little suites on international flights. I would agree if those things were true.

Maybe you found a doctor to give you sedation for the entire flight? I would agree with that too.

You can’t possibly be talking about a 10+ hour flight in coach, that would be absurd.

    😉

  17. 1000crystal Avatar

    So you’re not tall huh

  18. thisismyreddit2000 Avatar

I would agree if my legs didn’t start losing feeling after about the 5 hour mark. Otherwise I’m chilling.

  19. levislegend Avatar

I disagree but only because I’m paranoid and the longer the flight the more chance there is to crash and die. (I know it makes no sense)

  20. Dizzy-Swimming8201 Avatar

    I hate flying 😣

  21. crimson777 Avatar

If i could afford business class or first class, yes. In coach? Nah I’m too tall for that shit haha.

BUT I agree with your general premise. There’s not too much responsibility in the world on a plane. Maybe you could be productive but no one expects you to be. It’s why I like airports. Just time to sit and people watch.

  22. Trevor03 Avatar

I’d feel the same if a) I wasn’t tall and therefore uncomfortable, and/or b) wasn’t flying coach like the peasant I am.

  23. SurpriseBurrito Avatar

Yeah, I often like my work travel for the same reason. Even sitting in the airport, I don’t jump on the laptop. The flight and airport times are my personal time to finally binge watch or read something. It feels impossible at home without interruptions.

  24. nemesisprime1984 Avatar

I’ve only flown once. It was about two and a half hours each way

  25. Heavy_Interaction302 Avatar

I can’t stand long flights because sitting down for long periods of time is torture

  26. Bakio-bay Avatar

I like that I’m able to sleep easily on long flights

  27. Just_Confused1 Avatar

One time I got an insane deal on first class tickets for an international flight and it was actually so nice to lay back, read my kindle, and eat steak

But economy idk, my back starts to hurt after a few hours

  28. maryangbukid Avatar

Exactly how long we talking? 16 hours straight? And are you flying business class, or coach?

  29. TheRealGuncho Avatar

If I could lie down, I’d be fine with it. It’s my ass that can’t take it.

  30. Gallop67 Avatar

I don’t mind the ascent and the cruising altitude, but when descending OMFG I feel like my head is going to explode. Also I absolutely HATE having to hold in my bladder. Almost every single time it seems like I have to go as soon as we take off and then there’s always someone in there… I really wish I could afford first class every time for the restroom alone

  31. paperskirl Avatar

I agree, same with long car rides it’s the best

  32. George22232 Avatar

I get that but find the seats so uncomfortable and other people in my personal space so I hate flying

  33. 2clipchris Avatar

Oh I see the magic of flying is still with you. I wish I had this energy but i ruined it by traveling for work. Long flights are not fun when you are part of severe turbulence. They are not fun when you have connecting flight and board the same plane. knowing that parts of the plane fell off on the last flight and it’s all being held by duct tape. Long flights are especially not fun on small air planes where you feel everything. Lastly United fucking sucks too.

  34. yellowrose04 Avatar

Well this being unpopular opinion you nailed it. I hate flying the longer the flight the worse it is. The seats are to small, legroom is nonexistent, I always get a headache, there’s always someone making noise. Nope.

  35. danathepaina Avatar

Me too! I loooove the travel part of traveling. And I love airplane food too.

  36. eyeball-owo Avatar

I love all passive forms of transit! I take the train every day and honestly as I get older I just get more and more excited to take it and read my book (currently Too Like The Lightning). I took the Acela to NYC recently, I read an entire novel and finished collecting all the cousins and presents in We Love Katamari. Last plane ride I had I read a book and worked on my time trials in Neon White. It’s such a perfect low stress time where your sole responsibility is to entertain yourself. The best.

  37. BigDeezerrr Avatar

If i could afford first class id agree but as a taller guy sitting in gen pop that long sucks. Also having slight flight induced anxiety whenever i think about the fact that theres 35,000 feet of air under me makes it less relaxing.

  38. lmtzless Avatar

you can do all of that from the comfort of your home, so yeah, truly a nuclear take.

  39. bobazillaa Avatar

    If its business class yes
