The whole point of sportsbetting is risk—on both sides. But as it stands now, sportsbooks in the U.S. are allowed to take your action all day when you’re losing, then limit or outright ban you if you start consistently winning or finding value. They’ll dress it up as “risk management” or “bonus abuse,” but the reality is that they only want losing customers.
Worse, it’s predatory. These companies run endless promotions, ads, and push notifications targeting recreational and problem gamblers alike—people who are more likely to lose and deposit again. But if you show signs of winning consistently, suddenly you’re a liability and they cut you off. So you’re allowed to lose yourself into debt, but not allowed to win responsibly? That’s not just hypocritical—it’s exploitative.
Legalized gambling needs fairness baked in. If sportsbooks are allowed to operate with state approval, they should be required to offer fair limits to all customers—win or lose. Otherwise, it’s just predatory.

Wow, I didn’t realize they did that. You’re completely correct – banning winners isn’t fair at all.
I feel like most people, save for MGM grand (and so on), would agree with this
Question: How much would you have to win to be banned
In what world would this be an unpopular opinion??

Downvoting because this is an extremely popular opinion.
I honestly just wish they would make it illegal again. I’m so fucking tired of every ad being for something gambling. I got frequent ads on betting on who will be the next pope. Like fr, too far.
Gambling is only gambling for the customers. There has never been risk to the house.
It’s a business. They have the right to ban whoever they want and deservedly so
It’s rigged entertainment pretending to be gambling…. Win at a casino too much and they’ll ban you too.
They’re a business and can refuse to provide their services to anyone they want at any time they want, except for protected reasons or classes.
Is it scummy? Yes. That’s why I don’t gamble.
But as long as they pay out any bet they take, it’s legal.
I agree. This is not unpopular. Bookies will take a bet from a degenerate but deny the very same bet to a sharp punter. But they are not real bookmakers in the old sense of the word. Their odds are provided by a third party service and they merely seek out problem gamblers to enrich themselves. They have no interest in sport.
Truth of the matter is if you go down to Vegas and you are consistently winning Blackjack the mafia thugs who own the casinos (it’s true look it up). Will escort you out.
Don’t casinos do the same thing? You lucky enough to be raking in millions with little going back to the casino – you bet the casino will tell you to leave. Even if they don’t have a reason, they can make one up
It’s almost as if gambling is a predatory scheme through and through
Probably not an unpopular opinion.
The legal precedent goes back to real-life casinos, which can kick you out if you win too much. Usually, they’ll first try to get their money back by encouraging you to stay longer and bet bigger. But if you continue to win, they will kick you out. People have been banned from casinos for winning too much, too.
Gambling companies make money by winning. Most companies are allowed to stop servicing clients who are net-negative on revenue. I don’t see why the gambling industry should be treated differently in this matter.
(I do feel that online gambling, especially as it is currently constituted, is a social negative, but that’s really a moderate opinion at this point)
When ppl use the word SHOULD. I’m always wondering why ppl think it matters?
What should or shouldn’t happen has almost no bearing on what actually happens. Makes me wonder if most ppl understand the reality they live in
Casinos do it too – win too much they send security after you
“Legalized gambling needs fairness baked in”
🤣 buddy hasn’t figured out gambling yet
The person who manages the betting has the legal right to deny bets from anyone. That’s why counting cards is legal, but if you’re caught doing it, you’re getting kicked out. It’s just like any other business. They have the right to refuse service. They wouldn’t be in that business if the odds weren’t on their side.
Just don’t bet.
Winning a bet isn’t a protected class. Outside of protected classes (Race, gender, orientation, religion, etc.) a business can refuse your service for any reason.
The way a buffet can ban you for eating too much, a gambling site can refuse you if they’re losing money on you consistently
