Vasectomy
Men who did vasectomy, tell me about your experience please. To make my anxiety less. I’ve experienced a really bad
circumcision as a kid and it won’t leave my head how the surgery went, with no anesthesia and with no good proper after caring so yeah…
I’m not applying for the surgery anytime soon but I’m still curious. I’ve searched on the media and it said it’s a fast process and easy….so How long did the surgery took? And how fast was the healing ? And how big were the stitches? Did you felt any discomfort after the surgery?… Just make my anxiety go away please I would appreciate telling me your good experience with it. Thank you.

Man I am happy to have had mine. Zero complications. In fact I was smiling to get it done in the operating room!
10/10 would recommend!
About 15 mins. Walked in, got undressed, laid on the bed. Little sting when the local anaesthetic went in, bit of banter during the procedure, then my wife came and picked me up. That night I went to a punk show and was a bit sore, but fine really. Back to work after the weekend. I put off riding a bike for a few weeks, but otherwise all fine.
My experience was very smooth and successful. Kinda boring and mundane. Nothing to be anxious about the procedure itself. Just make sure you are ready for it mentally
I got unlucky and had more issue than most, and I would still recommend it to anyone done having kids.
Do it. … The most “uncomfortable” part is having to wait a week without playing with yourself.. Like for real . If course there’s discomfort in the procedure, but you shouldn’t feel any pain past the second day post OP and for real .. wanting to get back into your routine, but not being allowed to… is the worst of it.
I think the actual surgery took about 20 minutes. It was uncomfortable but not painful. I think most of the discomfort was just anticipating pain that didn’t happen. The most unexpected thing was seeing a tiny bit of smoke rise as the cauterized my pipes.
I don’t remember quite how long recovery took, but a few days with some pain meds and an ice pack made it very doable.
Didn’t get it, but wanted one. My doctor said no. He thinks I’m too young and might change my mind.
It’s the easiest surgery that exists. Getting a wisdom tooth removed is worse.
To answer your specifics:
The actual surgery took like 10 mins. Total time in office was less than 1 hr.
Healing was pretty fast. I was swollen for like 2 days and then took it easy for like a week. I was back to normal in less than 2 weeks and that’s with me babying it a lot because I am me.
No stitches.
No discomfort besides some swelling.
It’s a joke man. The entire surgery is easy as pie.
Was in and out within around 20 minutes. Actual procedure itself is a doddle, slight sting when they first inject the area. Few days after you’re walking like John Wayne but 0 complications other than that. Happy now that I’ve had it done, ignore all the noise around it, I had plenty of people tell me it was agony and it was nothing of the sort.
The recovery is the worst part. Please make sure to take the recovery period seriously, you’ll need a few solid days of rest, compression shorts are your friend. My doctor wrote me a script for 5mg diazepam to help with nervousness and it makes a HUGE difference.
Walked in, lay on the bed, bit of a sting from the anaesthetic, 5 mins done. Walked home. Next couple of days felt like I’d been kicked in the nuts. But all good
Super simple. Think it took about an hour from the time I parked my car in the hospital parking lot to going back and driving away. Little pain, spent the next day or so lying in a hammock with some ice on my balls, and had to stay off the bicycle for about a week.
Was a divorce present to myself, and the women I’ve dated have been extremely appreciative of it!
Really was super simple and easy. The hardest part, my doctors nurse was very cute. It’s weird getting put in the stirrups and having the nurse shave you, I’m a very clean dude who shaves but it was still awkward. I had my AirPods in and watched TikTok’s the entire time. I think the entire procedure was 20 mins. My doctor watched my facial movements and numbed me if it looked like I felt uncomfortable.
I thought I could return to work after only 1 day of rest. Bad idea. Procedure was Wednesday, I went home after being at work for an hour on Friday. By Monday I was pretty much good to go. The day of the procedure I just laid on the couch and didn’t move much while constantly icing.
I’m extremely thrilled I got it done. It’s been almost two years now. I’m a single full time father of 2 and just not willing to risk having any other kids.
The surgery was so quick that my wife didn’t even lose a life of her candy crush game in the time it took the entire procedure to happen. I spent a weekend eating takeout on the couch and then didn’t lift anything heavy for a week. There were no stitches and discomfort lasted a couple weeks. They gave me otter pops and whippets during it. Easiest thing in the world, you got this.
It’s a really simple procedure, in and out in like…10 minutes, it’s a single incision hole that they do both sides with so it’s minimally invasive, and they numb you up for it.
You’ll be sore and achy for a few days afterwards, then it’ll feel tender to anything above a gentle touch for I’d say a month’s tops (doggy style was not too pleasant I found, but other positions were a-okay!), but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it’d be, didn’t even need pain meds .
The doctor will go over everything you need to know, the common potential side effects, and some other not-so-common ones to look out for to avoid panic (apparently some men get some…impressively large swelling down there if they aren’t careful for the first few days).
I think the worst bit of the procedure was the injection into the second nut. But that lasted less than a second.
The other strange sensation was the tugging feeling in my abdomen – that’s where the tendons are that move them depending on temperature – and where it feels weird when you get kicked in the nuts.
I was lucky that the surgeon and the nurse were a good laugh and we had a conversation for most of the time I was on the table.
What really sucked is that I had nourovirus after and couldn’t keep painkillers down. But laying face down on an ice block for an afternoon the next day did the job.
My biggest concern was seeing blood in my samples (perfectly normal) but luckily that didn’t happen.
My family is complete, my wife can’t take the pill or have the coil and 7 years later, we’re both glad I did it.
I had a bad experience being circumcised at 12/13, but this was a stroll in the park by comparison.
I’ve had worse dental appointments and you have as well.
I say this lovingly but don’t be a bitch about it.
The clinic gives you a before and after instruction sheet. Instead of shaving balls, a week before I went for waxing hair removal on genital area. This was far more traumatic than the vasectomy. Very uneventful. Take a couple
Tylenols before appointment. Walk in, lay, pants down, lay down, a few elastics applied to hold testicles in olace. A few small pinches/pressure. You are done in like, 10 minutes.
Ice your balls for half a day. Then get back to living life.
It was painless, not pleasant, but not painful. I took it easy for a while to let it all heal up. There might have been some mild discomfort the day after but I don’t remember.
Got mine done. It didn’t hurt too much. I’d even go as far as saying popping a pimple hurts more. The doc was cool and let my gf take footage.
The soreness wasn’t so bad the days following.
That evening I had sex. Obviously a discouraged dangerous thing to do but we were careful. No problems moving forward.
Can be done in office, or OR. Scheduling was Thursday was OR only, and Thursdays were the best that worked for me, so I lucked out and got an OR day. (I’m the type that giggles when I’m nervous, and my God was I nervous!) quick, easy, flashed the recovery nurse because I didn’t believe I had an ice pack on my junk like she said I did (in fact, there was an ice pack)
No stitches, just a couple dabs of glue. 3 days I couldn’t stand upright. I hobbled around hunched over, by the 4th I was moving ok, but slowly. 7 days after I was right back to normal.
10 out of 10 would do it again, I still love making shooting blanks jokes
I’m in the group that is glad I got it. No real problems, and only my own anxiety about it to work through. That just took me some time and practice (without troubles) to get over. I highly recommend the practicing afterwards, once your pain is clear. 10/10.
Sat in the waiting room to get it done and I found out Alan rickman died. Man .. what a day.
I had some complications sadly.
I went in with a bit of anxiety and was walked into a room by this elderly nurse who proceeded to prepare my nether regions by disinfecting the area, prepping with that green paper cover stuff and such. Then she said the doctor would be in in 15 mins to apply the anasthesia, which he did. It didn’t feel to bad.
After that he said I should lay there and wait for the anasthesia to take hold. It did and he came back and tested it with pricking it and testing with the first small incision, which I felt a faint rasp (which I voiced to him). He said it was fine and he proceeded to cut the big incision and find the tubes.
The second he grasped the tubes I felt the worst pain I’ve ever felt. It genuinely felt like someone was ripping my balls out, which is the closest I can describe it as. He was visibly shocked by how much pain I was feeling and I started cold sweating bullets. He asked if we should abort and I said no, just continue. He decided against burning off the ends of the tubes, and instead tied them.
He finished and then asked if he should do the other side or if we should reschedule, I noticed how shaken he was. I said to apply more anasthesia and he decided to do so and close the right side while waiting for the left side to take hold.
Left side was no issue at all, completely pain free. When it was done, he apologized profousely and left the room with the nurse staying behind to make sure I was alright. I laid there for a bit and was then asked to stand up to see if I was ok, which was a bit wobbly but alright.
When I turned around I looked at the bed I had been laying in and noticed that I had sweat through the entire paper bedding and pretty much bathed the entire thing in sweat. I left and went home.
I had no issues afterwards and the vasectomy took hold.
It is awesome and amazing, my doctor who did it for me was even throwing out cheesy jokes that I found hilarious because of the Vicodin.
I don’t recommend this but the very next day after my operation I moved the entire contents of our house myself, we closed on it a few days before I had it done.
But I’m also the same guy that re-roofed my house while I had a broken collarbone, just a week after surgery lol
Best thing I did. Already had 2 children and didn’t plan for more. If I did want more children, I can do either reversal or IVF.
It’s made sex better and made me more horny. Never need to worry about accidental pregnancy, don’t worry about condoms or pull-out. Just go for it any time and cum inside.
A bit discomfort for a few days, but less than tripping while playing soccer or any normal amateur sport injuries.
I’m very happy with my choice.
My vasectomy went fine, Friday through Tuesday. On Wednesday I went to work in a giant manufacturing plant where I had to walk about 2 miles over the course of the day and my balls swelled up like mad. That was 15 years ago.
Today it remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Had it 40 years ago now, and it wasn’t a bad experience even then. I wore Speedos (budgie smugglers) for a day or so after op to stop things swinging, which really helped. Will never forget the wife asking the doctor if saliva would affect the sperm samples… Lol
Was done having kids and got mine. Was in and out in 20 minutes. Barely felt anything except a quick numbing agent needle, felt like any other needle. The snipping felt like an odd tugging on my veins? Weird, not painful at all. I was jerking it again in 21 hours post-snip.
If you think you might EVER want more kids, don’t do it. It is not a guaranteed reversal, not even close. If you’re done? It makes perfect sense to get the snip. So easy.
If you can afford it, I wouldn’t go to a cheap clinic. Go to a reputable urologist in the area. I get mine next month, but from what I’ve read a lot of the complications people get are due to 1.) them not following directions (like no lifting, take it easy for a week, etc.), and 2.) vasectomies that were not performed well (can result in phantom testicular pain or even a failed vasectomy).
The doctor I’m using offered a short script for lorazepam for the day of to help with nerves. I’m going to take him up on it. My partner is very appreciative, so I’m looking forward to being pampered the day of haha
It was over before I knew it started. I was talking to the doctor about basketball while he did the procedure. I did it on the Wednesday before the start of the NCAA basketball tourney. Highly recommend.
Took longer to do the paperwork than the procedure.
The 1st couple of days I chilled at home with some frozen peas. 20mins every hour for the 1st day. 2nd day just relaxed at home
Zero pain relief as wasn’t in pain the peas was just for swelling so I didn’t end up in pain
Aside the occasional granuloma which is dealt with by ibuprofen, no other issues and zero complications
Simple, took off 1/2 day friday, watch movies Saturday, fine Sunday
Mine went slightly wrong because I didn’t rest and got an infection in the stitches, not a terrible one but still felt like I had been kicked in the balls by a donkey.
Still glad i did it, it meant my wife was able to remove her coil that was messing up her hormones and she didn’t need to get her tubes tied, which is more intrusive and dangerous.
Also no more kids🤘
So now I just have 3 kids and no money
It wasn’t fun. But it’s a pretty quick procedure. Having a nurse shave your. Balls is kinda awkward.
Tell your physician about your stress and they can provide Valium which totally helps because most of the problem with the procedure is mental. Face it we all like to choose the people who touch are balls carefully.
Afterwords it was painful for a couple days in a cold-headache kind of way but the icy peas and my wife getting me whatever I wanted to keep me in a chair was kinda nice. And I had control of the remote for an entire weekend!
Now it’s great. Absolutely zero pregnancy worries!
I have anxiety about surgery in general, so I went ahead and pay a little extra to be put under. So glad I did it. It’s like pulling a loaded gun away from your head, or your wife’s uterus. 100% would recommend.
had a full conversation with the doc while getting snipped.
10/10 would recommend.
My only complaint is that they felt detached for a couple weeks, like hanging too low with no support.
No scapel vasectomy
Took 45 minutes
Didn’t feel any pain during
Was sore for 3 days
No scars. No stitches.
Felt normal within a week
Yes indeed ..certainly fair to overthink blades and blood near a guys “ cash n prizes “ but its actually a minor procedure. Mine was a no blood, and not painful, more uncomfortable for a few days……after many years later, was an upgrade for me, and I’d bet for lots of guys after they’ve got ‘ the kids in the house’.
To me, the worst part was getting two numbing injections in my testicles. That part wasn’t very fun. But overall, the surgery went fairly quickly and easily and the healing was only maybe a few days of rest and then another couple of weeks of “lift nothing too heavy”. That was over 20 years ago, so some of that is a bit fuzzy. I don’t regret it at all.
Shaving prep was unnerving but my Mate handled because I couldn’t see fer shit down there.
County health provided. Valium is bullshit, felt literally everything, hurt like a sunavamuther, zero compassion among staff and docs, providing “samples” before and after were degrading (public bathroom in public hospital since I lived too far for the time constraint).
Post: easy, frozen peas, weekender then a lil goin’ easy another day to two. Stitches melted, itched for a day.
Worth it to control my reproductive potential; had my kids, all done.
It was nothing. It took a few minutes then my wife drove me home. Minor pain for a day. The real tough one was sticking a camera up my penis into my bladder. That was for a different issue. I don’t recommend it.
The vast majority have no issues with the vas deferns. I was one of the minority. Funny story but only for those without fears or concerns about it. I will post this in another thread in the future. OP needs comforting and reassurance.
I took the coward’s way out and got general anesthesia. Highly recommend as long as you understand it will likely add $$$$ to your out of pocket costs. I weighed the money versus the anxiety (I’m lucky to be able to do that) and the fact that I’ve never had a procedure in my life with local that actually numbed everything…
Recovery was not a huge deal, except I couldn’t help my wife lift the kids in and out of bed, high chairs, etc. I ended up getting a granuloma which caused me significant pain 2-3 weeks after surgery. But between ice and Tylenol, after a few days the pain totally subsided (lump is still there).
Just waiting for the all-clear now…
Essentially, just sack up and do it
Very simple and relatively painless. But if you lift do take the recommend time off. Do not deadlift heavy the week after
Procedure wasn’t painful, merely “uncomfortable”. Bit of a pinch to numb. Took about an hour total.
Certainly uncomfortable/bit of pain for the following few days, then more uncomfortable for a week or two after while it healed. Peeing was a challenge. I don’t recall getting a boner while I was healing thankfully.
Wife was good to me. Work let me stay home for a full week I think.
10/10, get to cum in wife now.
The surgery was quick and easy. They put me under anesthesia but it was for like an hour or so. The week after hurt and I wasn’t allowed to do anything physical like exercise during that time. After two weeks or so it felt mostly good. What was strange is a few months later I had quite a bit of pain for days on end. A dull intense pain. Then suddenly it was perfect. That was tel years ago.
Stitches were tiny by the way.
The procedure and recovery itself was fine. However, I’ve had significant and seemingly permanent sexual side effects ever since that I have to believe are directly connected.
My doctor insists that isn’t the case on one hand, but on the other says I should have done more research before having the procedure done. Apparently listening closely to him and his partner say there wouldn’t be any changes was foolish on my part.
Three years later, I’m broken. Functional, but a dramatic loss of libido and pleasure.
99% of vasectomies are super simple with quick recovery. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
If the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade had any positive effect, it’s that there has been a spike in vasectomies, especially among younger men.
I have a 25 year old nephew with no kids and unmarried and it spurred him to do it.
His brother (24) and his wife are about to have twins and he has told her as soon as the babies are born and are healthy, he is scheduling his.
I had one back in October. It was quick and easy our patient procedure. It was mildly uncomfortable for a week or so after, I had drugs and ice packs and all. A bit of discomfort for a few weeks after, and one of my stitches took longer than expected to dissolve, but pretty minor.
As far as medical procedures it was a 2/10 for discomfort and healing time, meaning barely an inconvenience.
No change in anything related to sex or libido, same as before the procedure. Everything functions as before. I’m 49 BTW. Tested at follow up last month, sperm count is zero.
It was very straightforward. The area was frozen, there was a pinch, and some pain (like the aftereffects of getting kicked in the nuts) and that’s it. The balls do feel different for a bit after the procedure, but that goes away in a few days and eventually you don’t notice it unless you specifically look for it.
I could’ve taken valium but chose not to because I didn’t want to be loopy for the rest of the day. I applied the ice pack regularly like my doctor directed and had no issues. The procedure was about 1/2 hour tops, but I was there longer because I had to wait my turn.
I went with a ‘new’ procedure with a specialist – there weren’t any stiches.
I echo all that was said… however, I did feel like it took about 2-3 months to feel like myself again when I nut. And the consistency and viscosity was the same pre-vasectomy. Dating ladies afterwards was a lot easier, bc if we showed that we were both disease free, we get to go raw. 👌👍👌👍
I just had mine a few weeks ago and I’m 100% back to normal!
I think all told I was in and out in about an hour. It was weird, but not painful. Just a little bit of tugging and a bit of that kicked-in-the-balls feeling in my abdomen. I was mostly worried about the numbing shot in my balls, (I needed 4, 2 doses / testicle, because I have a very low pain threshold), but even that was very very mild pain and over in a snap. My partner drove me home.
The recovery took a little longer than expected, but I iced it for a week and felt a rapid ramp back to health. It’s really not something to be afraid of, but you should definitely consider it permanent even if they consider it reversible.
They told me to bring in a sample after ≈ 10-12 emissions, so I’ll be doing that this week to get the all-clear.
Wasn’t great for me… but now you can pound out zero calorie baby gravy!!!!
I see a lot of quick and easy vasectomies described here, so let me share my experience for perspective.
Had one half a year ago. We have a clinic that specializes in those, it’s all they do. The founding partner do mine, so it was not a case of an inexperienced doctor.
The procedure itself was quick, but kinda painful. Like a really bad dentist visit when anesthesia didn’t kick in and they butcher your gums.
“Oh wow, I wish I had my students here so I can show them how it goes with complications” is not something you want to hear with another guy all up in your family jewels.
I was sore for a week, had to take Tylenol, which is something I usually avoid for pain management.
Definitely a much longer recovery than normal and even with all of that I’d do it again. Luckily, I work from home, so it didn’t impact my work schedule, but if your work is physical or requires walking or standing for longer periods of time, best to plan it ahead in case your vasectomy is not the usual quick and easy process.
Good luck!
I was less painful than a root canal.. 🦷
To me, the greatest discomfort was the itchiness while the hair around the incisions grew back. Not something they warn you about and definitely not expected.
Had mine done 10 days ago. Like someone else mentioned, from parking the car in the medical center, to getting back in the car afterwards, maybe a hour. The longest part was waiting for the doctor to show up. Procedure itself took 10-15min. Small pinch for the local, and then a larger pinch that didn’t feel great, but manageable.
Still have bruising after 10 days, but it’s getting better. Stitches are still in, should dissolve soon. The occasional twinge of discomfort here and there, but not bad.
Can’t remember, but think it was about a week before I started “clearing out the system”. That might have been a little early, but overall I was fine!
It was day surgery, i was under as I was getting a few things done. It was uncomfortable but not painful for a day or two. Discharge volume/ colour etc is unchanged.
Got circumcised at about 11 or 12. Got vasectomy couple of years ago. There is no comparison, vasectomy is way, way less invasive or painful. I got a “no needle, no stitches” vasectomy. So little pain after it, I wasn’t sure it had actually worked. Back to normal in a couple of days. Don’t stress about it, really.
Let me just say thank you for this post. I have a genetic condition that if passed gives my chile a 50/50 chance of colon cancer and cancer throughout the digestive tract. There is no cure. I had my entire large intestine removed over a decade ago and have checkups for polyps that could possibly be cancerous annually. I have thought about a vasectomy since the surgery. I don’t want my child to have it. It’s life altering and makes dating and relationships difficult once she knows. I’m the first in family with the condition. If I can end it with myself, I’ll have done better for the future.
I get the anxiety but my doctor did it in a local surgery. Numbed the area and then talked me through it. Did one side then the next. Very simple, pain free. After the fact I just took pain relief and made sure I didn’t move fast etc. best decision I made.
Mine was uneventful. The surgery its self felt super quick, but I’m not sure on the specific length of time because they had me take a Valium beforehand. Only time I felt pain was when the doctor injected the numbing stuff.
First day after the surgery I was too sore to move much, but the rx painkillers and icepacks helped a lot. By the second day I was fine with just ibuprofen/ice and i could actually move around. Third day I probably could’ve gone back to work, but I scheduled the whole week off because my job is kinda physically strenuous. I had these two little weird pea sized things above my balls but apparently that’s normal and they went away after a week or two. Only weird part was plucking a mostly dissolved stitch out of my ball sack weeks later. It was like plucking the thickest grossest hair.
More than 6 months later now and everything has been in perfect working order. Can barely even see scars
One of the best decision I have made.
I went in, 15min later I was walking out. The painful part is when they inject anesthesia but the pain is only for a moment and not much.
Then for the recovery you just feel a minor discomfort..
The incision is so small that not even the doc knew where he had don it.
I’ve been wanting to get snipped for a while, most who’ve done it did you pay out of pocket mostly or did insurance handle any of it?
Piece of cake…. Take two days with a cold pack on your junk and to binge some Netflix garbage and boom…. Raw dog city.
On the table, I felt a good deal of discomfort. The anaesthetic shot hurt, and didn’t numb as much as I’d have preferred. It felt like someone was stretching my balls the whole time. No snippy-cutty pain. And it was still pretty quick. The car ride home and subsequent evening was fine.
The next day I tried to close my rings and get a half-hour walk/waddle in. I opened something internally, which caused even more bruising. This caused my recovery to go from the normal 2 days to 5 days. But I wasn’t actually in pain. I was sore without being in pain, if that makes sense. I went through a BUNCH of ice, so there’s a lesson here: don’t be stingy on icing your nuts. Also, don’t try to do a mile walk the next day.
The stitches didn’t bother me at all. I did have to pull one out myself because it didn’t dissolve or fall out. Interesting sensation, but not painful in the slightest. More like pulling a stray hair off of your skin, not out of your skin.
Post recovery, the first time having sex felt funny. But after that it was normal. Also, the first time being in the ocean (or cold pool, as I’ve heard from others) felt very strange. I could swear I felt the difference in my balls. But again, nothing like that sensation since.
Don’t overdo it. Don’t under ice it. And yes, totally worth it.
The first shot hurts like a MF’er for a few seconds. Then it’s completely painless. You go home. Ice it. Take pain pills for a day or two while you take it easy. No biggie. No major discomfort. Then take in another sample about a month later for testing. No swimmers. Saddle up.
It’s really no big deal.
My balls hurt for a couple of days. Best decision I’ve ever made. It even made my orgasms last a little bit longer.
My dude was great. He was like the doctor equivalent of one of those special forces guys who knows he’s too good to bother looking put together.
He did a scalpel-free surgery, which if you can get, I 100% recommend. Gave me a prescription for a single valium to calm me down the day of (it was fun! 100% recommend, I understand why 1950’s housewives were hooked on the stuff). I put on a podcast and ANC headphones so I wouldn’t have to hear anything and just listened to Conan with my pants off.
I felt a sharp stick in my balls when he hit me with the anesthetic, and after that no pain. Felt some mildly uncomfortable tugging but the whole thing was over in less than 15 minutes. Gave me directions to make sure I’m wearing boxer briefs for a couple weeks, ice and take a decent amount of ibuprofen, and that was it!
It felt a little tender when I would sit a certain way for a couple weeks, but it was manageable and I even worked out three days later. Something like 8 weeks later I had to jizz in a cup and take it in inside the world’s saddest donut bag and got a notification that I was sperm free. The scars are so small that I forgot they were there and actually gave myself a minor scare when I felt them the other day.
Every dude I know who has gotten one loves it. Even the one who had complications and a difficult recovery.
(Reposted with flair)
Very quick, easy procedure. There was a brief sensation of being kneed in the balls. The worst part was the gorgeous nurse shaving the area without getting an erection.
Mine was quick and easy. Some mild discomfort and then soreness for a few days after.
It’s just getting your teeth clean. The whole thing is no big deal. I have to saw the worse part was erection fear not frankly my guy retreated from fear and I was embarrassed cuz he looked small. I was like damn that was equally embarrassing
So my experience was, I went in, sat down in the operating room on a chair. They draped a cloth across my lap after I took off my pants and the doctor rolled up on a rolling chair with his assistant, female. I feel that pain of a needle numbing in the area. Then I feel a pulling sensation in my abdomen a little pressure, the smell of burnt hair and that was about it.
After they were done, I got up, put my pants on and proceeded to throw up. I think it was because my body knew I had gone through something traumatic and was reacting to that.
That night, I iced myself and slept, but I found myself sink into a little bit of a depression. It’s like my mind knew something that changed profoundly. For about six months, my testicle ached and I had swelling. And I have to confess I felt nauseous and had some issues with ED.
Overall, I feel that they tell you it’s an easy procedure almost like getting your teeth cleaned but in reality, I felt it was more traumatic. I wouldn’t take it lightly if you’re thinking about doing it. In hindsight, I’m glad I did it because it’s better than wearing a condom and I’m a married man on 30 years so it’s nice not to have to worry about it.
I had the no-scalpel technique.
Uncomfortable, but not painful. Was in and out of the building in about 40 minutes.
Most painful experience of my life. First time i came months after surgery it shot backwards causing a sperm granuloma. They had to put me on a morphine drip for twelve hours straight to deal with the pain. It was traumatizing and I’ve had anxiety over shooting my wad ever since. Blasting never feels quite right anymore.
It’ll vary, but for me it was mostly fine. I went to Dr. Snip in Seattle. He made 2 small incisions in the scrotum to pull each tube out, cut away a section, then cauterize the ends. My right one went fine (maybe 5 minutes), but the left one took extra time (30+). He has to keep manipulating the teste to get the tube in position. As a guy with a large sack and balls, my left one is slightly bigger and has always been more sensitive, so him working extra on that one hurt a bit. Not like being racked, but still hurt. I did frozen peas regularly, but had general discomfort for about a week with the left one hurting a little longer. From vasectomy to masterbation took about 8 days, then sex maybe a couple days later. To say it was absolutely worth it is an understatement. Between my wife not needing BC, not wearing condoms, and her pretty much wanting me to cum anywhere I want, we’ve had a blast (pun intended).
It’s a weird half hour in the stirrups with a man working on your junk. Little to no discomfort during the procedure. I spent the weekend watching March Madness with an ice pack in bed. Probably a week of taking it easy, or trying to, because when I went back we were rebuilding a deck. I kept moving boards with my feet and regretting it. I don’t know if that impacted me long term. It was quite awhile before I could really give it to the wife iykwim. Several months to a year maybe? From the comments here it makes me think I didn’t do myself any favors by doing the work I did upon returning to work.
The worry is worse than the procedure. Super quick. It’s uncomfortable for about 15 minutes and you’re done. Kinda sore for a couple of days, take it really easy for a week or 2 and then you’re good to go. Would recommend it to anyone. Pregnancy scares are way worse than anything regarding the procedure.
It was easy peasy and you can ask for some anxiety meds before hand. You just can’t drive after if you’ve had anxiety meds.
Do you have stairs at home?
No lifting and no stairs. Use the elevators at work.
The only discomfort I remember is feeling the cables and wires in my abdomen being tugged on for him to make the cut (the connections are longer than expected).
Might’ve been a week before I was back at it.
I feel like the requirements to practice (?) circumcisions are a lot lower than vasectomies, so the likelihood of them botching it is lower.
I clean shaved my balls the night before, but doc still took a razor to dry skin and nicked me all to hell. That was probably the worst part. Then he was working on me about two seconds after injecting lidocaine, so I felt a lot of it. Still very glad I did it.
The pain and recovery were not at all a problem. It was about 3 days that I felt any pain, and it’s wasn’t much at any point
Mine was pretty straight forward. I watched Top Gear on my phone while he did it. Afterwards I relaxed for a weekend then went shooting for a week. Had blowjobs and help to get off in general until the test came back clear. Then better sex generally as there was no risk of kids.
Had mine done 5 years ago. Took maybe 15 minutes. There was some mild discomfort and tugging during the procedure, but I was chatting with the doctor and nurse the entire time. I milked the time away from work a little. It was 100 percent worth it, to me and my wife.
While I don’t regret mine it was a rockier experience than most seem to have. Actual procedure was quick and easy. The diazepam was nice 😬. Pretty sore for a few days. They say about 3 days recovery which may be fine for some men but my job requires me to be on my feet for 8 plus hours a day. I should’ve taken 1-2 more days off as the first few days returning to work sucked and were very uncomfortable.
To make matters worse either one of my stitches pulled apart or the doctor didn’t do them properly and I ended up with a wound infection about a week after the procedure. After a course of antibiotics I was infection free but due to the infection the wound was bigger than usual and took forever to heal. 4 weeks later I am in good shape and getting back to my normal workout routines. I will definitely have a scar but that’s okay.
Btw I had zero pain or discomfort with 🍆💦 but I did wait for 2 weeks post-op due to the infection.
I got it done about 10/11 years ago when I was 32/33 not long after my youngest daughter was born.
I had my friend drive me up to clinic, and he waited in the car to bring me home afterwards.
I was longer waiting in the waiting room than I was on the table having the procedure. I was back in the car and heading home within 40/45 minutes.
The procedure itself I would describe as “mildly uncomfortable” and by no means anything remotely close to being described as painful. My biggest anxiety wasn’t about the procedure itself, but the entirely internal feeling of awkwardness of being naked and exposed in that area of my body. There is zero awkwardness on behalf of anyone else involved. To them it’s entirely routine.
It’s absolutely nothing to worry about.
The most uncomfortable part to me was the tugs you couldn’t feel directly (I’m assuming when they use clamps?).
But it was TOTALLY worth it.
Had some phantom pain a few times but also my anxiety was doing wild things to me when that was happening
I feel for you, man. I also had a traumatic experience with circumcision as a child. So, yes, I was very apprehensive when I went in for my vasectomy. But it went far better than I thought it would. I didn’t feel any pain during, and I didn’t have any sense of not being in control.
Of course, experiences vary, doctors are different, but at least for me, it didn’t trigger those memories the way I feared it might.
Afterwards, for me, the pain was minimal. After the initial evening when the numbing wore off and I needed some tylenol, I didn’t have any pain except during certain movements (worst when I coughed). That lasted 3 days or so. There was some mild tenderness when touching my sack for the rest of the week, and there were some stitches on the scrotum that dissolved after just over a week.
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. Haven’t felt a thing.
Recovery was fast and easy.
Only on day 9. Most uncomfortable part of it was sitting in a cold room without pants on. Mine pro bed hot took 30ish minutes. Only really felt one bit of pain on one side when he did something (wasn’t watching). Recovery wasn’t bad. Follow the directions. Have as many days off to just sit and ice as you can. Seems like a lot of how good your experience is, is based on how good your doctor is at them. Pick a doctor that does like 10 per week.
Stitches were very small with one cut but there are different ways of doing the procedure that might result in multiple cuts.
Did mine on a Thursday and went back to work on a Monday. Wasn’t horrible and if I had a desk job would have been even easier. Felt some minor pain and pressure for the first 7ish days. On day 9 and forgetting more and more that I had it done
Most painful part is the injections. Nothing you can’t handle. About 3 weeks of discomfort and not nut month. After that, bust deep inside every time without worry.
Just had mine done about two months ago and my appointment was at 3:45 and I left at 5:00 so a little over an hour from walk in to walk out. The recovery was two days with frozen corn and peas on my package and I was back to work the next Monday.
My wife has been very appreciative ever since.
Urologist, went quick. Mine put me under and waking up was fun. Sore for a few days but learned to rotate 3 bags of frozen peas
Well, the truth is with any surgery there is a nonzero chance of it going sideways. Mine went sideways.
So, I had a hernia correction surgery when I was an infant. This caused a buildup of scar tissue on my tubes. Because of that my tubes could not be easily pulled through the small incision in my scrote. I had to go in a second time and go under general anesthesia. They opened up my coin bag and finished the job. This caused my operation to go from $2k to $26k but fortunately picked up by Medicaid. It also meant that my recovery went from ~4 days to close to a month.
Reality isn’t perfect. I am however extremely happy that I am biologically sterile. I would do it again if I had known ahead of time but I do wish I had known ahead of time.
The biggest discomfort was the two sea urchins that appeared as the hair began to grow back. The surgery itself was a nothing burger.
Bro! Find a doctor who puts you under for the procedure. I was as high as a giraffes vagina, and couldn’t even tell you what it was like. 4 days of discomfort then you’ll forget it ever happened. They even gave me oxycodone for after, that stuff is wild in of itself. Goodluck.
I was out cold. Woke up with some panties on with my cheeks out 🤣
Didn’t hurt. Recovery was a few days? Don’t remember anything of note about it. Follow the rules they give you about recovery and you’ll be good to go.
My buddy had one last year and he said it was so quick and easy, like 15 minutes in and out and hardly felt like anything.
The worst pain was the injection for numbing, felt like a balloon being blown up in the veins.
After that I didn’t really feel much, just a bit if movement but that’s it.
No staples or stitches.
I unfortunately had a hematoma on one side, basically a third testicle sized ball of hard blood on one side. This pushed on some nerves and caused pain when lying in my side, or standing for more than a few mins without physically holding my sack up.
They can apparently take up to six months to go and affect less than 1% of people. Mine was around a month of pain that around half way started to reduce in pain (as it didn’t press on the nerve as much). After this month the pain was minimal unless I was knocked or alike, and then it’s taken another month or so for the clot to go completely.
If it wasn’t for the hematoma the swelling would have gone in around a month, and the pain would have gone in maybe another week.
Overall not the best experience and caused loss of sleep, but wouldn’t stop me doing it again if I hadn’t had it yet.
Actual surgery was over and done within like 20-30 minutes.
When letting anyone know I got a vasectomy all I got was horror stories from people. When in actual fact it’s probably the most painless and simple procedure I’ve ever had done, though I’ve not had many.
Many said my balls would ache for weeks. Many said they might swell. Some said the stitches could rip. Turns out, I had a form of surgery called keyhole surgery. There were no stitches. There was slight bruising but nothing bad. The pain, extremely mild, a little uncomfortable but nothing that required any form of pain killers or anything and it lasted a day or two tops.
I was going to ride there and back on my motorcycle. I was told by other people under absolutely no circumstance should I do that. Not because of the anesthetic they put in your balls so you don’t feel anything, but because of the sheer pain I’d be in when I got out. I ended up getting a lift there and back, but I could have ridden a motorcycle home.
In short, if it’s keyhole surgery they’re doing, you absolutely have nothing to fear. It’s about as painless as you can get. The anxiety beforehand is worse to deal with. I can’t comment on the other type that requires stitches though. It’s quick. My appointment was just before lunchtime and all I heard was them discussing what to get for lunch, and when I was done I jokingly mentioned how quick it was and they casually said I was the 8th person today.
Opt for the nitrous. Just made you relax. Also the build up of getting your bits snipped was WAY worse than actual procedure. Felt like a little ball squeeze. Recovery was a 2 days of playing video games and icing balls. Firing away now delightfully. Also am married 10 years no kids
Went totally under. Woke up, no pain. Took the kids trick or treating 2 days later. Typical wound care. Stitches were a little itchy that’s all
It was really no big deal. Chatted with the doctor during the procedure. I think the local anesthesia shot was the worst part. But not bad. At one point the Dr said “You’re going to feel a little discomfort now.” And if felt like he was squeezing my nut. “I said what are you doing!!!? He said “I’m pulling in your left testicle.” I guess to get everything back in place. Then he says “Now I have to do the right side.” Went home iced it up. Next morning no discomfort. Been decades with no side effects and it’s great to know I can never impregnate someone!
Didn’t feel a thing. Laser incision, out in 20min, went and saw Spider-Man in the movie theater before I went home.
I didn’t finish the pain meds they gave me.
The only down side I recall was not being able to swim or take a bath for a week. And I really like baths. Hahaha
I went with a no-needle, no-scalpel procedure and it was amazing. They apply anesthetic through what was basically a Star Trek hypo spray, then use a device to poke a hole in the scrotum that gets spread open to access the vas deferens. The hole closes right back up when they’re done and they put a bandage over the scar. Like others said, it took about an hour all told. My doctor was chatty throughout the procedure.
Recovery was quick..Got it done on a Friday, spent a couple days on the couch with a bag of frozen peas on my junk, and I went back to work on Monday. Two weeks later I was back riding my bicycle without issue.
It’s easy. Schedule it on a Friday with a good sports weekend and post up on the sofa either a bag of frozen veggies.
For me it was the most relaxing surgery ever, the local anesthesia stung a bit, but after that it was smooth sailing, having a nice discussion with my dr about the pros and cons of different local anesthetics.
Afterwards it took a few days of paracetamol and a month? Of not riding bikes, but other than that, easy peasy
Complications are vastly under reported.
I had ABS for years afterwards and so did another of my friends.
They put a fuckin needle in my testicle! That part hurt like a bitch but the rest of the procedure was fine once anesthesia set in.
Recovery was just long periods of discomfort but very little real pain, was back to work on Monday after a Friday morning procedure
The whole process took about 20 mins. Was not painful. The freezing was the worst part. Healing also was not so bad. Few hours of frozen peas at night. One day off. Back to work second day. My recommendation would be to book the surgery for a Friday, so you have the weekend to recover.
Surgery was cake. Numb as “nuts” down there. Can feel the pressure a bit which is awkward not painful. Recovery was achey and I didn’t like to walk.
Just don’t do what I did and go back to clapping those cheeks too soon because the day after was oof. Stitches were nothing. Looked like a single stitch on each hole. some swelling that felt hard so was worried. Doctor said it’s normal so more ice and pain meds for a few days and as good as new.
It was no big deal for me. Eat a Valium 30 minutes before procedure to deal with anxiety. They tape your dick up and out of the way and then perform the procedure in what felt like less than 10 minutes. Mild soreness for a few days to follow and then pretty much business as usual. Unless you were to have some sort of complication it’s really not a big deal
25 minutes about, felt minor pain for about 30 seconds. Dull pain the day of and minimal discomfort the days after. Wish I did it sooner
As with all things, YMMV.
For me, the doctor was pushing the needle in too fast so I wasn’t getting numb ahead of the needle. I’d also noticed that they’d left the exam room door ajar a bit and that passed me off.
So since the doctor wasn’t listening when I was saying, “ow. Owwww”. I talked it I’ll a bit and yelled, “OW! FUCK!!”
I heard a faint “click” as someone outside closed the door .. and the doctor slowed his ass down. After that it was reasonably smooth sailing. No visible stitches and the recovery took a day or two. I do have issues with testicular tenderness around the epididymis, but I can’t say for sure it’s related to the procedure.
Good luck!
In and out in 15 minutes, minor discomfort the day after. Two very small incisions and almost no pain within three days whatsoever. It was easy peasy lemon squeezy.
As long as you stay in bed for 24 hours after the procedure, you’ll be fine. And I mean absolutely, not matter what, in bed, 24 hours. No for food. Not for anything but the toilet. Have a friend come over and take care of you. It’s just a day. Do not move much. Otherwise, you’ll likely get an infection. After 24 hours, do whatever. You’re good. And you can take the stitches out yourself. Don’t be a pussy. 10 days.
I did mine without Anastasia. I did pass out, but I’m fine. Not traumatized.
Mine was done 35 years ago, it was in an office and completely painless. The set up a mirror so I could watch. So easy. I was back in action in two weeks.
I went early in the day. It took maybe 20 mins? Uncomfortable but I didn’t feel much. It felt a bit sore. I iced it all day.
Ran 5 miles the next day. I didn’t ask my doctor about running but I was training for a race and never miss a run so I did it. Running was fine, things still felt a little sore but everything healed up quick.
The dude who did mine was pumping guys in and out of his office so fast I didn’t even have time to consider the awkward clamp he was putting on my balls.
In and out in under 30 minutes.
Recovery was 1 day of slight discomfort
It was awkward as a procedure, but not painful.
Took about a week for my pain to go away, but it wasn’t intense pain. Like a 3-4/10, so about the same as a stiff muscle.
I really did not enjoy when I was still sore and the hair came back and made my scrotum itch.
Oh. And I hated briefs! Fuck I hated wearing them.
Just had a vasectomy, so here’s my take for anyone curious:
First off, get the screen so you can’t see anything. That’ll help. The anticipation is the worst part. Mentally preparing for it is way harder than the actual procedure. Physically? Not bad at all. Honestly, it’s no worse than going to the dentist. If you can handle getting your teeth cleaned, this is easier, seriously.
Yeah, you’ll feel it. It’s your balls, so your brain is like “these are the most precious things I have,” but the pain is whatever. Minimal. The gas they gave me helped a ton. I sucked that down like it was ice water on a hot summer day. I made sure to get as much of that gas as I could.
Mentally, again, it’s harder than physically. You’re a grown-ass man, it’s just mental because of where it is.
Recovery:
Week 1: Took it super easy. Barely did anything except walk gently the first two days. You can do everything, but the less you do, the better the recovery.
Week 2: Could do light stuff. rode my motorcycle, lifted light things, but still cautious.
Week 3: Felt 75–80% back to normal.
By Week 4: 100%. Felt totally normal, like nothing ever happened.
I started “trying it out” after two weeks. First few times were very careful and gentle. No pain, just mentally scary. Even peeing the first time is more nerve-wracking than it needs to be, it doesn’t hurt, and it doesn’t affect your piss at all.
Stitches were gone within three weeks. Can’t even tell they were there. One or two on each side, tops.
Mentally, it’s weird. Caveman instincts kick in; “you’re supposed to procreate,” and now that’s gone. And yeah, part of me wonders, what are the side effects 20 years from now? Who knows. But so far? I feel normal. One month later, it’s like nothing ever happened.
Had mine done 2 months ago
The surgery was pretty painless, the numbing injection did its job
Had a male doctor and female nurse, nurse cracking jokes about prev patients, was literally over in 10mins.
Mild pain over the next day or two, few painkillers did the trick, rested up over the weekend and back at work Monday
Left it a week before testing things down there and no issues at all, only way you can tell is now have a minor scar in the middle of the Crown Jewels
I’ve had way worse dentist visits
When I had mine done the older surgeon asked if I was okay with a med student doing the actual procedure while he supervised; I obliged. The guy was professional but clearly cautious, maybe a bit apprehensive? He told me I was his first vasectomy.
He gave me my numbing shot, waited, poked them to see if I could feel anything; I could not. He then cut in. I jokingly went “ah”, he flinched. I laughed and said “I’m kidding, I felt nothing.” He seemed unamused, the surgeon laughed and told me he’d never had a client make jokes with a knife to his balls. The procedure went on as normal. No pain, no issues, minor discomfort except for when my dog decided to jump into bed with me and landed on my sack full force. Then I almost died.
It’s a simple, routine procedure you’ll be in and out of before you know it. Just keep others from stomping your balls for at least a few days after and it’ll be fine!
Easiest thing ever. Took about 20 minutes. Healed completely In a week
I didn’t notice a vasdiference
It was painless, some discomfort mainly but nothing major.
I was probably in and out in about an hour.
Down there will swell and be uncomfortable for a few days to a week and you’ll be walking like a cowboy for a couple of days.
Look up the scalpel-less vasectomy if you’re anxious about the surgery aspect.
Honestly, it hurt a lot less than having a third child.
Wife: well it isn’t brain surgery.
Nurse: it is for some guys.
For me: in-out 20 minutes, worst part was the stubble.
