When my dad was around I was maybe like 6-7 years old and he’d take me with him to trap houses to score and have random women there watch me while he did his drug then on the way home tell me no to tell my mom where we were at… fucked me up as I got older because I never had proper guidance as a kid and now I’m a adult dealing with my past on being honest with ppl..

Lmfao so I started to type something out and then I realized that it’s actually traumatic so it won’t fit the prompt.

Easy though, I’ll just talk about that time that… no that’s actually trauma too.

Well when I was 22? This one time… oh no wait, yeah that’s trauma too. My b.

    Anyone else? 😂

Edit: I wonder if I’ll never forget the fact that I had to edit this post to fix an autocorrect mistake. Hey OP, if I always remember this edit, does that count?

I remember holding my child close on a windy beach on our 1st family holiday thinking just how intensely I loved this little person and that I wanted to remember that moment forever. The cool wet sand under my feet, her little woolly cardigan, the smell of the sea, sea birds calling. I can just remember it all so clearly. A moment of true joy.

I helped a man to get into a cab at the hospital after he had knee surgery. The driver didn’t get out of the car. I let him use my shoulder for support while he lowered himself onto the seat and held his crutches while he got comfortable. It seemed like the right thing to do so I didn’t really think about it.
Once he was on his way I was approached by a group of people telling me I was a wonderful person to step up and help him when no one else would.
I will never forget how sad it made me feel to know that they would rather congratulate me instead of helping that man to get into a cab.

Getting my first boxer and second boxer. Was in 7th grade and our mom had a stomach virus and she told our dad to take me and my brother and sister for ice cream. Well it just so happened there was an adoption event happening right next to Friendly’s and there was a boxer puppy there. We were playing with him and my dad called our mom was telling her, he’s so cute the kids love him and she said don’t come home with a dog. Click. Well he came home with us and my mom asked what flavor is this mocha?

Then 2 years later i had the day off before thanksgiving and i was out to lunch with my mom and again same location was having an adoption event and what’s there again? Another boxer puppy this time a female. So im playing with her and im begging my mom for her and she said call your father and he comes up to meet us, sees her and tells my mom it’s up to her. And she becomes our second boxer.

Total solar eclipse, 4 minutes of totality. Just unreal. We happened to live in the zone so we didn’t have to travel. Just felt so surreal with muted brightness and then bam, night time. Just incredible and I understand now why people would get emotional over it, it’s just an indescribable experience

My dad would take me to the park as a kid and he’d be the ‘Monster’ and chase all of us kids around the climbing frames and bridges while everyone squealed in delight as their parents played on their phones on the benches. I was SO PROUD that MY dad was the “fun” dad that everyone wanted to play with and when we left the other kids would look sad and say “Aww”.

I remember this like it was yesterday, I feel so proud and try and parent like this now because it was a core memory for me.

1972, 18 years old. In the Gulf of America, wearing a safety harness tied to the boat as we transited through a hurricane and watching the 35–40-foot waves crash down from above us. Thinking “I’m completely ok, but if I were to fall off this boat I would never be found.”

A New Year’s Day on a quiet spot on the California coast. Husband and I had gone for an early morning walk, watched the morning light on the ocean. Talked about our ideas for the year. We decided to take the plunge and commit to a big lifetime dream. I said, “So we’re on!” and he said, “We’re on!” and we high-fived.

At that exact moment, a bottlenose dolphin leapt out of the water, did a huge vertical backflip, and dove back down.

“Oh, WOW!” we both said, and then, “Looks like the universe just blessed the plan!”

    Astonishing moment; will never forget.

    Wholesome one…
First time I saw my girlfriend (now my wife) dressed up for a party. She looked so amazing I wasn’t even sure I was allowed to touch.

    Not quite traumatic…
As a teen/young adult, walking down the street (in the UK) and the road literally exploded. The gas and water pipes under the road had frozen in the abnormally cold winter we’d had and when they defrosted, they fractured and the pressure literally exploded the tarmac from below. A piece the size of my head missed me by a few feet.

    Funny one…
As a high schooler (15 yrs) walking into town from school for lunch. A hearse was parked and as we walked past it, a hand reached around the coffin.
Everyone else (boys and girls) screamed. I burst out laughing and couldnt stop. When we got further down the hill we could see it was actually someone sitting behind the coffin, but from our original viewpoint it looked like it came from inside the coffin.

I was breaking up with a guy after dating for a while, and I was sad because he was a nice guy, but I realized I wasn’t in love with him. He noticed I was sad before I even said anything, and he asked why. I asked him how he knew, and he replied that whenever I get sad, my lips go soft. It was so sweet I never forgot. He is now married to my best friend, and they have two kids.

My extended family rented a beach house, I was maybe 12 or 13. A few of us cousins decided to walk down to the beach in the middle of the night because we’d heard you could see the Milky Way. We were laying there in the sand, just talking about whatever, and then all of a sudden, we saw a shooting star. Then another, then another, and a full on meteor shower started. None of us knew it was supposed to happen, I don’t even know how long it lasted for but it was amazing. I wanted it to last forever.

When I was really little, we lived about 5 minutes from this fantastic park. It had an amazing playground, a train ride, a carousel, a big lake to walk around, a small zoo! And it’s so cheap. The train and carousel cost $2 each. The zoo is $2. Food at the snack bar is cheap.

In the summertime, my dad would take me there almost every night just before the park closed. I LOVED the train so we’d ride it and because they were closing and we came so frequently, they’d let us ride multiple times for free. Then we’d go to the snack bar and get Icees. Core childhood memory.

The time my mom picked us up early from school and took us to a carnival. We stayed til it closed. We went on all the rides, and she let us have all the snacks and toys we wanted. I remember driving home in the car so happy, exhausted, sticky hands, a lapful of random toys and a belly full of cotton candy. I have lost my faith in life, suffered existential crisis and dont know what to believe anymore or I keep questioning about life how cruel and unfair the world were living in. It helped me open and see the beauty of everything. I wish everyone would have the privilege to try it

On a crisp cool fall day I was a lone paddleboarder in a quiet open bay. The air was still and you could hear the soft mumbles of voices from a few people on the shore in the distance. As I started to paddle out I was hearing strange sounds from the ocean in front of me. I stopped to figure out what I was hearing. It was hundreds of dolphins swimming in a big circle around the bay as they fed. It was the puff of air they make as they surface that I was hearing. I quickly paddled out to the centre of the circle and stood there for 20 – 30 minutes and watched as these dolphins continually swam around me. The closest they came to me was about 40 feet. Such an awesome experience. I remember laughing out loud as the joy of the moment overtook me.

My first love at 16 years of age. He was… well… everything. We met in college, we were in the same psychology class. But he lived just around the corner from me so we used to walk the long journey together. He became a good friend.

My parents had gone away and I didn’t realise but my mum had phoned him to let him know that they’d be away and she was worried because I was working and would be catching the bus home in the dark. So he showed up at my house to make sure sure I was alright. We ended up spending the perfect night just talking, laughing together through most of the night, until we both got tired. We laid fully dressed on my bed and fell asleep together. He was the perfect gentleman.

my first sip of coffee. i was raised by my grandparents who were both big coffee drinkers and i desperately wanted to drink coffee as a child but my grandparents were firm in no coffee until i was at least 10, so the morning of my 10th birthday i woke up before the sunrise, reheated the pot of coffee my grandma had made the day before, popped a cinnamon sugar pop-tart into the toaster, climbed up on top of my treehouse and watched the sunrise with my luke-warm day old coffee and pop-tart. it was the best cup of coffee ive ever had and i think about it often.

When I was 9 we did a family vacation road trip to California. My mom said “we are going to drive to the end of the continent”. I 10 does in fact end at a stoplight, that if you drive through the light you enter a state park and can literally step out of your car, over the parking lot curb, and onto sand. It was pretty cool.
