I was just jamming out to “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey while doing some work and suddenly I was back in primary school during summer break and my dad was blasting the CD from the garage.
We would be sitting around, he’d be having a good time fixing things up, or just relaxing, I’d be doing chalk on the driveway or getting ready for a bike ride. It was warm out. Life was good, it’s nostalgic.
Nothing bad has happened to him, he still does it now and I still hang out, but this is the memory this song brings up.
So I’m curious, what’s the song that takes you back somewhere?
Comments
Samwell -what what in the butt
well… La Copa de la Vida (the cup of life) – ricky martin
it was worldcup theme song when i’m a kid. and even tho i didn’t understand the lyric nor have any interest in soccer. it just stick because of how often i heard it around the time xD
My go to anthem. Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue.
Livin’ on a Prayer- oh those piano bar days of younger years 😂
Sweet Dreams Are Made of These
I was probably 7 or 8 and it was the moment I first really listened to and appreciated pop music. I was at a high school dance waiting for my mom who was the chaperone. I remember looking at all the teenagers dancing to this song in a dimly lit gym. Core memory.
Everybody Talks – Neon Trees. I had my typical pinterest-y teenaged hopes and dreams, and had no idea that none of them would happen. Good times
If You Leave-OMD. 17 year old me felt every word, 52 year old me still does.
Diamond Girl by Seals and Crofts makes me think of being a toddler on a perfect 75 degree day at the beach. It’s a song that should have always been floating out there in the universe.
Take Me Home, Country Roads
“Espresso” takes me back to drinking amazing coffee in Tokyo. Seemed like every cafe was playing that song at some point
“Don’t stop believin” makes me want to chug a drink and gtfo wherever I am as it’s clearly last call at some bar somewhere. Any song hits me – gotta be careful – some will get you in the heart and before you know it you’ll be singing in the mirror at 3am for the screenplay you never knew you needed to write (totally sober at home with children on your night off of the night shift). Anyways !
Faith Evans – No Other Love. This album was truly on repeat for me in 95 when I was 15 and coming of age. Same with Mary J Blige’s “My Life”
Jimmy Eat World- The Middle
“I want it that way” by Backstreet Boys takes me back to those old rainy school days when i was a dumb little boy. I didn’t understand a lick of English back then and still I used to sing along to this. Damn, that dumb kid would envy the current me as I am envying him.
Slow dancing, swaying to the music.
