The difference in non-exercise energy expenditure between individuals can be noticeable and impact how much calorie one needs to function to a significant degree, but its more of a „if you move a lot you might need to eat a bit more than the other guy” thing.
No there are certain diseases that cause a slow metabolism and therefore people gain weight although they eat normal. But it’s actually helpful to follow a healthy diet and exercise to speed up your metabolism (in combination with medication).
So slow metabolism would be the worst excuse for an unhealthy life style.
I fast one would be a better excuse.
People with a high metabolism can be lazy and eat junk food just to keep their weight because normal eating and exercising would make them loose to much weight.
You consume a certain amount of energy every day in the form of calories.
Your body expends a certain amount of energy every day in the form of calories.
If you are consuming more calories than your body is expending, you’ll gain weight. If your body is expending more calories than you’re consuming, you’ll lose weight.
There have actually been studies where some people do gain weight more, even when eating the same things. It has to do with the individuals gut biome and not really their actual metabolism. This is a new area of science but very interesting. It also talks about how our gut biome has a lot to do with mental illness.
“The gut microbiome and the gut nervous system are intricately linked through a bidirectional communication system called the gut-brain axis. This axis involves the enteric nervous system, the central nervous system, and the gut microbiota, all of which interact to regulate various bodily functions, including digestion, mood, and even brain development”

sometimes yeah but not always some people really do have slower metabolisms but other times its just easier to blame that than change habits
