I never believed in Santa as a kid. Was there anything wrong with me?

r/

I’ve heard stories of people who believed in Santa until they found out the truth. I always knew, even as a little child, that it was a made up story. My parents told me about it, but I always knew that they were lying. Was there anything wrong with me?

No there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re just not very gullible.

Logically, an overweight elderly gentleman coming down our chimney to place gifts as well as billions of others seemed farfetched to me even at a young age. Just didn’t fit and I thought it was a make belief as well. I am not the most creative person and my imaginations have limits when it challenges facts. I have the social skills to be courteous when it comes to other children with make-believe stuff, but personally I am not sure I would drag this on when I have my kids and they want to know the truth. I won’t break their brains telling them when they believe it, but when they doubt and bring it up, I won’t lie about it.

No, there’s nothing wrong with you, when i me and my brother were growing up, we always tought of santa as a part of a story/book/something, never as an actual entity, especially since our dad dressed up as santa a few times hah

Well did your parents start doing Santa stuff? Usually you find out at a reasonable age. Like obviously you’re not going to recognize things until you’re like 4ish. My younger brother told me at like 5 and I was 6. He asked mom and she said yeah.. you’re right. Funny I’m an atheist and hes not though lol.

No, I was in Catholic schools by 4 years old and I always asked why I couldn’t pray to God myself or confess to Him. I questioned everything and logically no Santa nor Easter bunny was real. I knew by 5 years old the traditions and the background. But never spoiled it for any other kids.

No because it’s all down to the effort the people around you put in to convincing you. You will have eventually picked up that many things were fictional even if you weren’t told directly, even a sly knowing smile from your dad as he told you Santa comes down the chimney could have let you know that this is a fun silly thing we do each year and it’s great to play along as if it’s real even though it’s not.
