I (24M) have a cousin (he is my 2nd best friend after the 25M man who is intellectually gifted and academically precocious but was diagnosed with Autistic disorder at 4) who is 30 years old, and he is happy to talk between Mondays and Fridays when he is trucking, for an hour or maybe up to 6 hours each day to keep me company. On average, we usually talk about tech, news, and crypto for 5-10 hours each week.
However, last weekend was a little special. You see, I have been jubilant when he upgraded from his 2020 Camry to the new GR86. I wanted to come over and help him assemble and install the new LED lights on his GR86. Due to the fact I was conferred an SB in Computer Science and Engineering (Course 6-3), I felt like I was the competent one. However, my 30M cousin claimed that he will be “busy all month”, so he wouldn’t invite me. The real reason why he wouldn’t invite me is only because of my sister (24F)’s presence there.
I asked him if we could talk for even 5 minutes (even outside whilst he is alone and not with my sister) whilst I glaze over his Toyota GR86 he bought for 40k, and he said NO.
Turns out, I was on my way to the city he lives anyways, so I might just as well stop by his house to check out the new car. I found out his father bought a 2014 Mercedes Benz GL450 with 230k mi for $8000. But what’s more important, I saw my cousin outside alone just scrolling through TikTok on his GR86. He was clearly not busy. He was betraying me. He didn’t even give me 5 minutes to talk with him, under the guise he was busy, but I saw him scrolling through TikTok and goofing on his GR86 alone for one hour.
I started doordashing around the area (for fun) whilst waiting for a response from my aunt because she wants me to come in for dinner.
Then luckily, for dinner, my cousin’s mother, aka my aunt (62F) invited me in. I was too shy and effectively stayed out in the hallway. The door was unlocked. What I later found out is my cousin (30M) is flirting with my sister (24F). I found this kinda disturbing because I have never ever behaved like this or become this intimate to a female cousin. Even during my childhood, even though relations between my sister and I were warm, it was not this intimate.
I have seen that I could actually build the LED Lights in less time than it takes my cousin+sister to build due to my engineering acumen, but my cousin claimed that I “don’t have the interest and patience to work on cars” and that this project is “complex” even though I have spent seven 12-hour days just comparing specs and inventory prices/dealership markups and value per dollar to find the optimal car. Even though I bought my car with my own money and knew about maintenance and even have a computer lab/workshop at my apartment, my sister was handed a 2023 Porsche Taycan using my parents’ money and knows very less about the technical quirks of the car. My cousin claimed that I “don’t build the way he wanted” despite having an engineering background and having won an engineering fair in Moscow as a child whilst my sister is into biology/dentistry.
My cousin would not let me apologise with my sister or to reconcile, and instead, told me to leave. I left and blocked him. I drove me car straight to my apartment in a Boston suburb and I basically collapsed. I went NC with this 30M cousin. He spent the whole day with my sister, but wouldn’t even spare one minute (the time when he was outside goofing in tiktok) to talk to me.
TL;DR: I came to my cousin’s house uninvited and he effectively got mad at me and told me to leave. Unfortunately, the reason why he didn’t invite me was because my sister will stay over at his house (even though she has a condo in Boston that is far more spacious). Unfortunately, the altercation is too long, but if you want to read the nuances between my sister and I:
