Just saw the trailer for the new Superman and I realized Lex Luthor talks a lot of shit to some one that can rip his head off before he knows superman is there or assassinate him when he is sleeping and get out with no one the wiser and he does this shit too in the Snyderverse movies?
This man ACTUALLY is not afraid of Superman at all and dosn’t actually act like Superman is this harmful frightening creature.

On another note, I’m a little excited for this new movie. It has the vibe of the og superman films with a modern spin

Og lex is arguably the smartest ( non meta) on planet. If we had a way to stop Superman, he wouldn’t be a villain. It’s been shown several times when he doesn’t focus on superman, he’s not that bad of a person.
Often, his reason for hating Superman is how humanity is “dependant” on him for saving them when they should be self reliant. He’s all about being self-made and sees Superman as inciting laziness on the world. Eventually, that hatred becomes personal.
I always saw it as Lex having an abusive personality but finally having someone he could just hit eternally without causing real damage.
The look on his face in that one panel where Superman and the Justice League are outside his window is not the look of a man who expects it, even though literally nothing was ever stopping them from doing that at any point.
He KNOWS Superman won’t actually do it on a random tuesday, and that makes the difference.
I mean, yeah.
Ultimately, Lex knows that Superman is not a real threat to humanity. Not because he is weak or anything. Superman definitely has powers to be a threat. But Lex also sees that Superman is too much of a good guy to actually take over.
Lex basically projects his own disregard for people onto Superman and only uses a “threat to humanity” rhetoric to convince himself of his own righteousness.
There was even a comic where Superman called Lex out on this. He told Lex that if he really cared about humanity as much as he said he did, then Lex had an entire year without Superman to help people around the world.
Instead Lex just sat in his lab and worked on weapons to prepare for Superman’s return.
It’s his ego. Lex truly believes he is actually the “super man”, the apex of mankind. When his ego is confronted with Superman, he can’t handle it
You clearly have never read a single Superman comic
Lex fluctuates from fearing the implications of an evil superman, to some randian hatred of a society that relies on him. It varies
Luthor deal is he genuinely believes he is the peak of humanity and an alien both existing and being more liked than him is a massive threat to his perception of reality and ego.
I think his big deal is he would rather humanity rely on him, then themselves rather than Supes.
It’s an ego thing.
You misunderstand. Lex isn’t scared Superman is going to go rogue one day and take over the world. He isn’t scared of Superman. He is scared humanity will rely too much on Superman saving them and become complacent as a species. Lex thinks humans will get lazy and stop developing because Superman will always just bail them out.
Lex thinks he is special to the point of immortality at some level. A narcissist to the core
Lex Luthor and Superman actually kinda get along when Lex Luthor is not doing bad stuff
No shit, Lex never feared Superman. He envies him and Superman challenges his god complex. Lex simply uses fear to rally people on his side
Lex luthor being completely disingenuous about Superman is his most basic character trait. He’s egotistical, he’s resentful, and he manipulates people into believing that he has some kind of point about Superman.
He has never believed his own anti-superman propaganda. He’s not J Jonah Jameson
There is team that covers up Superman’s slips. It can be messy.
This DBZ Abridged quote provides a counter-point to your argument
I’ll also link these two 2-minute conversations between The Question and Superman as well as The Question and Luthor from Justice League Unlimited because they’re a truly amazing insight into Luthor’s psyche and the whole potential situation and simultaneously argues in favor of and against your position.
