Battle royal games is the downfall of games

r/

I feel like gaming started to die when battle royal games like fortnite and pub g came into the scene so many microtransactions so many battle passes
I miss when buying shit in a game with real world cash actually improved the game and not just a fun skin or charm or emote it’s really just turned the gaming landscape as a whole a big pay to win with the rare game that comes along that doesn’t have any of that shit and this is all because of once great studios stopped trying the only studio that I know of that still tries is RWS (running with scissors the makers of postal 1 2 4 and brain damage) in the year of our lord and savior 2025 they are still pushing updates to their older games and they actively listen to its fan base
It really breaks my heart seeing gaming losing all its magic

    Look inside

    “Microtransactions bad!”

That’s something that games like MapleStory already did decades prior. It’s nothing unique specifically to battle royales.

I would disagree in that when developers realized they could put out half finished games and charging for what should have been part of the full game preceded the battle royal game trend.

Not sure if it’s unpopular. Take my upvote.

What about from software? larian studios? Warhorse studios? All the indie devs that publish great games?

Open your eyes, good games everywhere 🙂

Most battle royale games are free, nobody’s forcing you to buy stuff in the games.

I’ve played pubg for 8 years now and never bought more than the original game which I think was like 20 bucks at the time
