Would I prefer barista-made coffee? Yes, of course. I am a barista during school holidays. But I feel like some people over hate on instant coffee, is it bitter? Yes, but coffee is meant to be bitter. And you can always add milk (or cream) if you want a richer, less bitter coffee.
Home barista machines are expensive, take longer to make and hard to use in the morning when I have just woken up, which is when I want coffee the most.
So while I could invest in a nespresso machine, or a traditional espresso machine with a milk frother, I am perfectly happy with my moccona instant coffee.

They still make instant coffee?
They’ve really improved it in the last 20 years or so.
I don’t really mind instant coffee. Better than Starbucks.
Instant iced coffee with a scoop of chocolate protein powder is my breakfast and I love it
I fucking love instant coffee. It really feels like instant drinkers are treated like the lower class of the coffee world, but I genuinely can’t tell the difference—and I don’t have time to grind my own beans 😂😂 I don’t discriminate though. I’ll take whatever coffee is handed to me, even the fancy ones I can’t pronounce. No clue what makes them special, but I’ll drink it!
Same. I’m going to have a cup of Gold Blend right now.
I mostly stick with my espresso machines. My machine can grind the beans fresh and make an espresso shot in under a minute. But I do agree with you on it being expensive.
I think some instant coffee is actually decent depending on the brand. I think people still believe instant coffee is crap because they just remember Folgers being the de facto choice when other competitors wasn’t in the game.
It’s not a coffee. It’s sublimated mimick.
You don’t have to have espresso machine at home, Hario/V60 costs 20$. You will spend another 40$ on grinder and paper filters and you are done.
It makes no sense to buy and drink garbage if you don’t have to.
Easy on the wallet and tastes perfectly fine. Hell, I used to add cheap vodka to it when I was super broke a few years ago for my poor man’s espresso martini and even that was okay lol.
I think a lot of people don’t like it because they heard it was bad at some point and never gave it a fair shake.
I’m with you. I have an electric kettle because I drink a lot of tea, and I realized at a certain point that instant coffee means I don’t have to have an entire separate appliance for coffee. It’s so easy, I can make a cup at a time just like a Keurig, only it’s as weak or strong as I want, and as hot as I want. Also I buy good stuff and maybe I don’t have very discerning taste but I can’t tell the frickin difference
All coffee tastes the same to me.
If you drink Moccona, for example, put a dash of milk in the coffee granules while the water boils and mix it into a sludge. If you take it black (like your men) add some cold water too, mix it a bit more, then add the hot water. If you do it this way, the granules don’t “burn”, and you can get a faux crema if you do it just right
I’ve bought premium beans of different roasts and varieties, ground them up differently and brewed them in various ways, but first thing in the morning, two scoops of instant coffee just hits different.
I think the big thing with instant is finding a brand you enjoy, and sticking with it. Because that’s the home stuff. The stuff that gets you going. Everything else becomes special because of it.

How are these the only options instead of just going for pour over. Or even just a cheap portafilter machine.
I love the Nescafé gold espresso, it’s delicious.
Because I have spent much of my life traveling, I’ve developed a taste for instant coffee because I always have packets of it in my bag. Espresso powder too. I can always find hot water and a cup, but not always a coffeeshop, especially in off hours. Also, other countries and cultures have delicious versions of instant coffee.
As someone else stated…instant is ALWAYS better than that crap they sell at Starfux.
I wouldn’t invest in nespresso if you like instant coffee. Personally I think it’s no better.
But if you wanna get into proper espresso machines to make espressos and milk drink, that’s a fun hobby to get into.
