I live on the top floor of an apartment complex. Everyone has a balcony here and my neighbor across the way (~50 feet) just installed a security camera on his balcony facing directly into my apartment. It, I assume, is capturing my living room and bedroom based on the way it’s angled. I think it’s strange to have an outdoor security camera on a top floor apartment when the only thing you can most likely capture with it is just your neighbor’s apartment. I’m not sure what purpose it serves on a top floor balcony either. I love to have my curtains and blinds open so this is putting a damper on that.
I know this probably has a simple answer, but just looking it up online isn’t giving me a direct one in regard to what’s a reasonable expectation of privacy in this situation.

If the camera can see inside your unit, and provides no security to the neighbor, it seems like an unjustifiable invasion of your privacy.
I think your best first step would be with the landlord.
You generally have no reasonable expectation of privacy when someone is filming something they can legally view with their eyes.
Close your curtains.
Never come to a bunch of lawyers and expect a simple answer lol. Sorry in advance. I would talk to the apartment complex and let them know your concerns. I doubt there’s any laws in your state that prohibit the placement of this camera. Especially if the owner of the camera has a non voyeur related reason for placing the camera. I do think if your complex has its own cameras that it’s odd that your neighbor would need one. Hopefully it’s something management can help with.
Almost certainly legal to have the camera
Peeping tom laws apply. Make a police report first. Pressure the detectives second, and lastly sue them for invasion of privacy.
Maybe buy a really powerful laser and aim it directly at the camera. That or motion flood lights
Get a laser pointer, and point it at the lens
