Having sex and being in a relationship is the goal of most people from age 14 onwards. It’s why most movies have a sexy scene. Why books have sexy scenes.
Either A: they are looking for answers to questions they wouldn’t ask unless it was anonymous, or B: they are farming Reddit karma and interaction to inflate their accounts; a lot of times when it’s B, it’s a bot or scammer trying to get enough upvotes and interaction to not get banned from subreddits for being too suspicious. Sex questions are very easy to farm interaction on.
Parents don’t have the talk and if they do it’s not very detailed and it’s cool to learn stuff. Some questions are repetitive but there’s new people here all the time.
One big reason is that a lot of NSFW accounts can’t post their nudes in certain subreddits without having a certain amount of karma first, so people post a bunch of sex related, low effort, click baitey stuff anywhere they can.
It’s anonymous and sex stories are often embarrassing or adventurous. And easily made up, which is why I don’t often read those posts. So with the anonymity (which makes people willing to ask/share) and perceived entertainment value of the stories, you get a perfect storm
Reddit has become super sexualized. r/celebrities was once a place for celebrity pics usually attached to some new or intriguing information about a celebrity. The last year or two it has become a celebrity weirdo sub. Unknown people in porn scenes or actual celebrity photos with a shots of their crotch zoomed in on. Most of the content is just super cringe and feels like a 12 year old just got their first computer. Lame, what was once a great sub has been ruined by immature jerks. I replied once with “Can we just agree not to allow porn on here”. The sub became a porn site for a few days, backlash of me politely trying to gain some semblance of maturity was ridiculous. Reddit is over run by idiots, sad.
Sex is the most fundamental thing to biological life and we are hardwired for it. One of the most ancient artefacts discovered is a stone penis. We won’t exist without sex.
Sex sells. People love to talk about it. Everyone thinks they are good at it and everyone enjoys it. It does get old tho. You can only read so much sex shit by strangers. I usually pass them up these days but I’m also old and boring now and rather look at different shit. But I can imagine if I had reddit as a teenager or in my early 20s I would be all over it. I know I would have lol.
