I never understood the logic behind brushing your teeth before eating breakfast — like 20 minutes before, not an hour or more. To me, it defeats the whole purpose of brushing your teeth in the first place.
Think about it: when you brush before breakfast, you’re cleaning your teeth and then immediately dirtying them again with food. Any minty freshness you just achieved? Gone.
And it’s not like brushing before breakfast prevents bad breath — you’re just layering your breakfast on top of morning mouth. It’s like spraying deodorant before working out and calling it a day.
Plus, brushing after breakfast is just more logical hygiene-wise. You’ve already eaten, so you can clear out food particles and sugars instead of letting them sit on your teeth for hours. This is especially important if you’re eating carbs or acidic foods, which bacteria feed on and turn into plaque and acid that can erode enamel.
If you’re worried about brushing immediately after eating acidic food (like orange juice), then just wait 15-30 minutes before brushing. Rinse with water in the meantime. Easy fix.
Brushing before breakfast might be a routine thing or a time-saving hack for some people, but it’s not optimal for your teeth or your breath. Brushing after breakfast just makes way more sense.
Edit: I see now that there’s a spelling mistake in the title, just ignore.
