I don’t enjoy them. Maybe this is because I’m from a landlocked area, but sitting around the ocean for hours at a time surrounded by half-naked men, screaming children, and volleys of seagull shit is the opposite of fun. Once you swim in the water, it’s cold, filled with weird unseen floaters, and a pain in the ass if you get it in your mouth. Plus, sunscreen sucks, yet it’s either that or you get skin cancer and/or sunburn. Even worse is trying to sleep yet rolling around in the sand you tracked in.
I only go once every few years with family, so my perception is probably warped. But as it stands, I don’t like them. Cities and mountains are always the superior destinations.

You need beer. A lot of beer. Lager preferably. And then piss into the sea like our ancestors before us.
Unpopular and exactly right.
Yeah. I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
Beach vacations suck when you go to a shit, overcrowded beach, have no shelter from the sun and do nothing but sit at the beach
Yes
I love everything about the beach. I love laying around doing nothing and doing that on a beach makes it even better. Love the water and sleeping on the beach, I love making sand castles and digging holes. I love fucking with the seagulls and I love just going for a walk and seeing things on the beach and in the water. Plus I love my beach hair.
Well it depends on the beach and time of year, if you go to touristy areas you are gonna deal with some crap.
Lot of beach hate around here lately..
You gotta know how to beach properly.
1: Bring a breakfast sandwich and a coffee, settle in, do a little people watching.
2: Work up a sweat with a volleyball, football, frisbee, whatever works. Then jump in the water for a swim.
3: Play in the waves with a boogie board or just body surf to blow off some energy.
4: Crack open a beer (or two), read a book or do a crossword/soduku/word search.
5: Throw on some headphones and listen to music/podcast, probably doze off for a bit.
6: Make a sandcastle or go for a walk down the beach/boardwalk. Then jump back in the water after.
7: Lunch (and another beer). Go back to the headphones/book until you wanna leave.
Last time I had a fun time at the beach I got severely sun burned. There are an awful lot of nuisances that can develop at a beach. Sand lugging and that.
Shocking News: Reddit user doesn’t enjoy being outside, in the sun, around people, or showering to get rid of sand after the beach.
Public beach opinion. Ewwww.
Every time it’s always about being in a bad overcrowded beach. And it’s a shame most don’t have access to better ones.
You’re taking poor people beach vacations.
I completely agree. I will choose pretty much any other type of scenery over the beach. I’ve never lived in a landlocked state but I hate the beach.
It’s interesting that you’re from a landlocked area. Unfortunately in my job I have to deal with people and their beach vacations. The people from landlocked areas are always the worst and super entitled about it because the beach is such a novelty to them. They act like they will die and throw a fit if they can’t see the beach every second they’re there. I never, EVER want to go to the Florida panhandle after the crap I’ve seen with these people.
We did a beach vacation once. Just once.
I can say that I swam in the ocean now, but I spent entirely too much time thinking about the eternal words of John Pinette while I was doing it… “I don’t go in the ocean. Shit bites you in the ocean.”
I thought so too until I went to the Adriatic. Stone beaches – no sand. Crystal clear warm water that is salty enough to make You easily float.
Loved it.
But f… Baltic. And Black Sea was mediocre. Still need to check out Medditerran.
I agree with you on the “cook in the sun while children scream” part. There are other types of beaches though.
You owe it to yourself to try a rocky beach in the fall, or even the winter at low tide. There’s so much life everywhere and there’s tiny crabs under every rock you turn over.
Once you’re done, maybe head back to a cabin by the ocean? You can watch the storms with a warm drink, it’s amazing.
Were you at Myrtle Beach?
I’m from SC and it sucks all year.
I don’t understand people who grow up in flyover states.
Get a surf board kid
Beach vacations don’t suck
You suck at beach vacations
There are people that live at the beach that hate the actual beach.
The beach is sick if you’re either drinking or surfing (but never both at once).
Obviously.
2-3 days at the beach is maximum most normal people can take.
I totally agree.
I absolutely hate sand and everything that sand entails, like cleaning sand off of everything. Then you usually go to the Beach when it’s hot, and I’m a cold temp person and I despise hot temperatures.
My hatred for the beach is helped by the fact that Saltwater irritates my skin a lot, so I can’t even go in the ocean.
I’m a little restless to fully enjoy just being a beach bum. I need bocce ball, paddle ball, or something to toss around.
Don’t drink anymore, but beach beers are great.
2-3 days is enough for me, unless there are golf days sprinkled in.
A nice beach, with accommodations, bathroom and good temp water is the key. Otherwise it sucks. Not all beaches are made the same. You haven’t done it right
I wish I enjoyed it but I genuinely hate everything about the beach and I always feel uncool
“Volley of seagull shit, filled with weird unseen floaters”
The fuck kinda beach you go to?
“Water is a pain in the ass if you get it in your mouth”
Bruh spit it out lmao? Its water not acid…
You don’t spend your time on the sand (hours of frisbee excepted), you spending in the water
Maybe dont go to touristy beaches? I’ll take salt water unseen floaters over fresh water parasites any day. And who doesnt use sunscreen? its just as important, if not more important at altitude because UV is more intense. and maybe take a shower before you get in bed? or better yet, use the outdoor shower before leaving the beach or at your place of stay if thats an option.
Not saying one is better than the other, but your complaints are maybe the unpopular part.
You’re basically just lying in dirt at the beach.
upvote for being a true unpopular opinion. Also not all sea water is cold. It’s much warmer near the equator.
I live near a beach. I like sitting on the shore. It’s nice and relaxing.
But I hate bathing and the sand too.
I like to vacation near the ocean, and to never actually spend more than an hour in the sand. But I love looking and listening to the ocean from our rentals deck.
That’s because you’re going to the most overcrowded beaches. Gotta find the secret beaches, and quieter places. My time in Kauai has been amazing with the beaches, and everything I’ve ever done.
Depends where you go tbh
LOL, what kind of ghetto shit beaches have you been going to your whole life?
It sounds like you don’t even rinse yourself off or shower when you get back. Almost everything you complain about sounds self inflicted from poor decisions.
The problem is you haven’t gone to a nude beach.
So much better than a regular beach.
I used to be very opposed to nude beaches. But I tried one last year, and it was so great, I only go to nude beaches now.
I think it depends on the beach really.
But yeah dealing with sand sucks no matter what.
