I read NPR’s entire top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy book list from 2011, then read their 50 best SFF books published from 2011-2021. AMA.

First, the list(s): 2011 2021

I want to do something with this. (A blog? A series of Reddit posts?) And I still might. But for now, I think I’ll settle for an AMA.

To be clear on what, exactly, I read: I made a rule for myself that I would read the first book of every series. However, for the vast majority of series, I made sure to read at least two books, if not finish them.

I have a lot of opinions! I put the books into five categories:

  • Bad (Genuinely bad)
  • Mid (Unremarkable)
  • Good (Would recommend; probably not good enough to be on a ‘best ever’ list though)
  • Still Excellent (Belongs on the list and worth recommending)
  • Aged Classic (Belongs on the list, but old, and probably hard to read and enjoy in 2025)

I can’t share, however, the massive compilation I’ve created, as it only makes sense to me. Making it fit for the consumption of others would be a whole other endeavor, hence the blog or ‘series of posts’ idea.

But for now, Ask Me Anything!
