If you were left braid dead with no chance of recovering, would you consent to your body being used to carry surrogate babies? Why/why not?

r/

The title pretty much says it all. If you were left brain dead but with your reproductive organs intact, would you agree to your body being inseminated to carry babies for couples that can’t have them?

    Absolutely not.

    I am not an incubator.

The premise of this question is inhumane.

  2. msstark Avatar

What the fuck, no. I’m a human being, not a support system for my uterus.

If I’m brain dead, by all means donate all organs that can be useful to someone, but then let me die.

  3. zombifications Avatar

No, just let me die and donate my organs lol

  4. raptorsniper Avatar

    No. Horrifying. Violating.

  5. rosha267 Avatar

Damn that sounds like a premise to a horror movie. I’m doing my part donating my organs I think that’s enough!

  6. violettkidd Avatar

why the f would I do that 😹

  7. gremlinsbuttcrack Avatar

    Absolutely fucking not.

  8. Snoo52682 Avatar

Fuck no. I may look like Laura Petrie, but that doesn’t make me a petri dish.

  9. Clementinecutie13 Avatar

Hell no. But I also don’t want to be kept alive in this scenario either. Wasted resources they could use on someone else

  10. wickedseraph Avatar

Absolutely fucking not. I don’t want children now, like hell I’d consent to my body being used as an incubator when I’m braindead.

  11. PainfullyLoyal Avatar

A brain dead person is not an ideal candidate to be a surrogate. Also, I’m brain dead, so I can’t consent to anything.

  12. Routine-General3841 Avatar

Of course not, unfortunately some jack ass medical student already proposed this and had to redact his study or wherever due to criticism. Is that what you’re referring to?

  13. discolemonvde Avatar

No?!??! There’s plenty of able bodied women that are willing to be surrogates. 🥲

  14. CV2nm Avatar

If I’m not coming back, I don’t care what happens to it. If someone i care about could use it beforehand (it’s riddled with Endo so unlikely) then fine. I’ve left in my will to be donated to medical research/organ donation anyway. I’m happy with it for the right person. But ideally I’d want to have agreed prior like knowing they had issues.

  15. BunnyGirlSD Avatar

No, but i do not consent to my conscious body carrying a baby either

  16. Manifestival1 Avatar

Of course not. How do you even reach and idea like this lol.

  17. DejaBlonde Avatar

Absolutely not, just let me die with dignity.

And just as a general rule, any situation that’s ever appeared or been alluded to in any season of The Handmaid’s Tale (which this has) is unethical as fuck.

  18. MrsBagelCat Avatar

No, let me die and then donate the organs that could actually save someone already alive. Great horror plot though.

  19. MotherNightingale Avatar

If I am still able to consent, then I am not braindead.

If I am actually braindead, then it wouldn’t matter. IDC what they do at that point. Donate to science, make me a surrogate, treat me like a lab rat…etc. I don’t expect myself having more rights than a fetus.

  20. NTXhomebaker Avatar

    Gross!!! No way.

  21. minimorty Avatar

Being “brain dead” doesn’t mean someone doesn’t have the capacity to suffer. Also, even if someone consented to this, they would be stuck with the decision and unable to change their mind. Also, absolutely not and I hope we never allow this to occur.

  22. maybsnot Avatar

No. For all the reasons everyone else has said, but also no one should have to grow up knowing that their birthing parent was essentially a doll for incubation. Surrogacy, adoption, sperm/egg donors, etc already have a huge impact on the children even in the best of cases, this would be a nightmare for some people to find out re: their own conception and place in the world.

  23. Obvious_Economy_3726 Avatar

What the hell? Absolutely tf not!

  24. nonsignifierenon Avatar

I would rather die a slow horrible death than have my body be an incubator when I can’t consent to it. People being freaks is one of the main reasons I want to be unplugged if I ever become braindead.

  25. OpheliaLives7 Avatar

Absolutely not! How fucking horrifying. First that such a thing would be considered, how it might lead to women being allowed to die rather than receive treatment, but also how it would no doubt be a Frankenstein experiment with most likely horrible side effects for any fetus that manages to make it to viability.

And there’s already too many cases of women in comas being raped and forced to give birth or the state government forcing families to keep braindead woman alive (hundreds of thousands of dollars of treatment DAILY) to TRY and continue gestation and have it fail

  26. Equal-Tank432 Avatar

No, I will be much more use to already living people as an organ donor

  27. [deleted] Avatar

Played Death Stranding recently, by chance?

Not a chance in hell I’d consent to that.

  28. strangexhilaration Avatar

I don’t think a viable, full term* surrogacy is possible for someone who is brain dead to even consider this scenario. But even if it were, no. We don’t even fully know or understand that would affect the fetus/baby

  29. LadyOfSpies Avatar

I would in theory, as long as consent before death is required. I don’t want children, neither do I want to be pregnant, but it’s not like I’d be around for it if I was brain dead. I might as well make other people happy, as long as bodily autonomy for everyone is respected with the requirement of prior consent. However, all of this would also hinge on the availability of organs, at least to me. As important as having children undoubtably is to some people, preventing deaths with organ donations is far more important. So if we ever reach the frankly utopian state of having enough organs to go around for everyone, I’d be fine with giving children to people who can’t carry them themselves upon my death.

  30. tillywhacks Avatar

Never. I will not be kept alive and in a vegetative state so that others can use my body as an incubator. That is horrifying, and I would much rather be allowed to die in peace so my organs can be donated to people who need them. Frankly, in my opinion, no one NEEDS a baby. People do need new skin, a heart, kidneys, eyes, etc.

  31. Sprocket-Rocket0169 Avatar

No, nit in a million years. How absolutely dehumanizing the idea of this even being considered would be. This makes me a non-person and just an incubator. They have machines that can do this. So it can be done leaving my humanity in tact

  32. 624Seeds Avatar

Hmm, at first I wouldn’t be against it, but after thinking about it I’d just be taking away a living person’s chance at being a surrogate if they wanted to.

My cousin is currently a surrogate. She’s always wanted tons of kids, but after 4 her family is complete but she still wants to keep having babies. It’s good money and she’s helping someone.

People always say “donate my organs and then my body to science and cremate what’s left”, but they squirm at the idea of their organs actually being used to help someone 🤔

I think using my braindead body would also just be unhealthy for the baby. You can’t just be sedentary through your pregnancy, OBs tell you this, it’s not good for the baby. The baby also wouldn’t get to feel the movements of the woman walking around, eating different foods, laughing, singing, etc. wouldn’t see changing light through the mothers skin, wouldn’t have temperature changes, feel her heart racing or resting…. just developing in complete silence and no changing.

  33. Few-Coat1297 Avatar

Assuming you meant brain dead (somewhat ironic spelling mistake) , just for the sheer dumb stupidity and insulting nature of the question…

    1. Brain death is legally the same as being dead

    2. The first point means no one is kept alive unless temporarising for organ donation

    3. Even in some crazy Trumpian dystopia where it was legal to do this, maternal somatic support shows maintaining normal physiological goals is very challenging, and that is in women who were pregnant at the time of brain death. The likelihood of maintaining a normal ovulation cycle in an already brain dead woman is unlikely.

All in all, not only a disgusting idea, but also a non starter.

  34. Sylland Avatar

If you believe a woman’s primary reason for existence is to be an incubator, I suppose this might seem like a reasonable idea. If, on the other hand, you think that women are people, it’s an appalling one. It would be defiling a corpse.

  35. tniats Avatar

    We know it’s you Donald

  36. brunetteskeleton Avatar

Yes as long as the baby would have a loving family to go to.
