I few years ago I decided a career change was in order and followed my love of plants into horticulture and conservation. I absolutely love my work, and a bit over a year ago was offered a permanent position with an amazing nursery. It’s the best job I’ve ever had and I love almost every part of it.
The one thing I find hard to deal with is working outside in summer. Where I am gets hot, often over 40C (105F) and I have always been a winter person preferring to hide in air conditioned comfort during heat waves. But with plants that’s not an option so I decided I’d toughen up and learn to deal with it.
Being sweaty is part of the job, but the worst part for me is under boob sweat. I’m a bit heavier, so I sweat a lot there and always had a red, irritating rash. I’ve tried different things like antiperspirant and rash cream but it was always a problem. I just figured I’d have to live with it.
A few days ago I noticed a few rashy spots on my side, and then a few more appeared. I asked my doctor about it and she said it looked like folliculitis and said it often happens in summer when people are sweaty. Couple this with being around potting mixes and composts all day and it’s caused me a small bacterial skin infection. She gave me the name of an antibacterial wash and sent me on my way.
I picked up the wash and figured since I was using it on my stomach I might as well see if it had an effect on my sweat rash. Well, today my rash is almost gone. So I’ve had a bacterial skin infection for over a year and just brushing it off as sweat rash. I feel so much better, but I can’t help feeling foolish that I could’ve had this dealt with ages ago and not been in so much discomfort at work. At least I know now I guess.
TL;DR – I put up with a bacterial skin infection for over a year because I thought it was just sweat rash.

Yeast infections are common in “folds.” You can use some fungal cream. It’s kind of by the insoles and stuff at Walgreens.
Which antibacterial wash did she suggest?
Wash all your clothes, bras and bedding on very hot and add a cup white vinegar to the wash. It will help kill any lingering bacteria.
Also look online at cloth diaper websites and learn how to “strip” laundry. Strip all your clothes/blankets/bras
That’s gross
Sweat and bacterial folliculitis often go together. Glad you’re feeling better!
Wait what
I’m going through this right now omg I’ll have to try antibac wash!!
Idk what a “sweat rash” is suppose to be but it just sounds like another name for a bacterial skin infection tbh. I’ve never heard of someone getting a rash from sweating and I don’t think anyone who isn’t severely morbidity obese would think it’s normal.
Jesus Christ get your life together. This isn’t a Today IFU this is a The past 5-life years IFU. “a bit heavier” is doing a lot of lifting.
They have bamboo cotton bra liners that help absorb sweat. Also medicated powders like GoldBond help as well.
Ugh, been there, sweat rashes are the worst, mine turn fungal in the summer and treating them works, but it always comes back
My sister and I both (separately but over the course of several years) had weird little raised red patches that were smooth, not itchy, but distinct, under our boobs, like in the bra line. Both of us were uninsured and didn’t worry too much about it. We both had yeast infections at some point in our 20’s, treated either over the counter or at planned parenthood (thanks PP!) and suddenly, the weird splotches were gone! Turns out we both had a mild fungal infection, and the YI medication cleared it right up!
Fellow nursery worker here! Feel ya ♥️
What wash did you use? I have the same red bumpy rash under my breasts and it hurts so bad
Powder the sweaty areas with corn starch. It absorbs the moisture the bacteria grows in. It’s a lot more comfortable and cheaper than commercial powders, works better too in my opinion.
Anti-Monkey Butt Powder also so works great. Funny name, great product.
