I kind of like light insomnia

r/

Ok I want to clarify that medical-grade insomnia is horrible and I don’t want to not-sleep for days or a true hell like that.**

However I kind of like not being able to sleep sometimes. It’s just peaceful to lay there any enjoy not doing anything.

I used to get upset about not sleeping but recently I’ve changed my mindset to just enjoy the peace of resting and being awake to actually enjoy the rest.

i love being awake to enjoy rest. setting an earlier alarm to wake up and acknowledge i can rest more is way better than waking up when you have to.

I love that this just popped up for me as I’ve just gotten into bed and had the thought of “I’m not going to be able to sleep again”

It is nice to just lay in the dark, listen to the noises of the night and just be, unbothered by the day. Chefs kiss.

I’ve somewhat had a similar experience over the last 10ish years. Finding ways to actually relax and rest to a point where I felt my body/mind recovering was tough at first but I think audiobooks and podcasts helped a lot.

Funny enough, this mindset will stave off severe insomnia as a lot of insomnia is sleep anxiety turned up full blast. I had chronic and severe insomnia once for about 6mos and training myself to not care if I got sleep or not is what ultimately cured it and allowed me to sleep.

I’ve always had trouble sleeping. When I was a teenager it was kind of fun, just like you’re saying. My family was a dumpster fire too, so it was nice to have a little peace and quiet at night.

Now I’m 45 and I need a CPAP, pills, and ideal conditions to get to sleep. I fall asleep at meetings at work and behind the wheel when I’m driving. My point is, take care of yourself.

You don’t like insomnia, you like peace and I’m not talking about zen or quietness. I’m talking about the liminal space stuff. I’m like this too.

That’s not insomnia. That’s relaxing. There’s no such thing as “light” insomnia.

I’ve always loved staying up; I worked nights for many years.

It’s the space that you enjoy and the quiet peace.

I still stay up but I don’t wanna stay up all night anymore as over the years the lack of sleep and stress etc caught up with me and sleep and having a good bed and pillow is something I hadn’t considered for a long time

    Take care of yourself

Except not being able to sleep is anything but peaceful. Especially if you have to work the next morning and your job has some level of hazards to it where even life and limb are at risk.

There is nothing peaceful about being incredibly tired and not being able to sleep for any reason.

Actually, I’m happy for you that you’ve managed to find your way to deal with light insomnia!

But as others have said, this sounds more like enjoying relaxation than liking insomnia.

Anyway, I hate not being able to sleep because if I’m awake anyway, I tell myself I could/ should be productive and, seeing as I’m not, I mentally beat myself up about it for procrastinating and wasting my own time.
