TIFU by losing my parents’ trust on my first ever night out

r/

This was yesterday.

I went on a night out, things get heavy and we go back to my friends house. This is where the fuck up starts. Around 1 am, slightly buzzed, I decided to leave and I call an Uber which my friends help me into. From then on, I completely lose track of where my phone is . I’m on do not disturb so I don’t receive any calls. I proceed to leave my phone in the Uber, but my parents have my location on Life360 and my phone proceeds to do a tour of London by night with the Uber driver, which my parents can see and get really anxious about, thinking I’ve been kidnapped or something. this whole situation lasts 1.5 hours, and all this time I am at home unaware of my parents’ stress, recovering from my drunkenness and not worrying too much about not having my phone — I thought I’d left it at my friend’s and would collect it tomorrow.. The taxi driver, the legend, drove back to my house and returns my phone through the letterbox. I get my phone back at 2:40 am, and I have nine missed calls from my mum. I think I’ve lost all their trust for awhile.

TLDR: I left my phone in the Uber when drunk on my first ever night out. I failed to think to update my parents and I probably lost all of their trust.

You’re an adult, it was a harmless accident and no one got hurt. You even got your phone back.

So what if you had actually been on that trip around London with your phone. Some of the best nights you will have are those when you agree to some random idea with some strangers and make memories to last a lifetime.

You fucked up leaving your phone in the uber, but that is a small one in the grand scheme of things. Don’t even sweat it dog.

Not too bad, your phone went for a ride, but everyone is okay.

Yes, shit happens. I myself am still a young father with a daughter of almost 2 but I would also be very stressed in that situation, especially with the way the world looks now. Let this be a lesson that you always need to be aware of your stuff, even when buzzed – drunk.

This might be a controversial take, but you didn’t fuck up and you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s none of your parents’ business what you do on a night out and this needless stress is what they get for helicopter parenting.

I have absolutely no doubt that they went on nights out when they were your age, lost personal belongings, didn’t think straight because they were drunk and probably had their own parents worrying about them. It’s called being an independent adult and learning to stand on your own two feet. I would delete the app and tell them to get off your back.

If you get so wasted on your FIRST night out, no wonder they might be worried.

    Pace yourself, buddy.

No, seriously. Modern teen loosing a phone? That is the most important item in their life.

Also. Do really everybody need to know the location of family members?

Do you live with your parents?

If you do, they shouldn’t have been worrying about you, because you were literally at home in their house.

If you don’t, they should not expect to know where you are all the time, turn that thing off.

Lost all trust? They should have expected something stupid…

Kids are so lame these days. You’re an adult. Going out and enjoying yourself doesn’t require parent supervision.

honest mistake, you’ll earn their trust back

Man this reminds me of my parents. A life of anxiety and stress for no reason 🤦‍♀️ I remember feeling like i fucked up and freaked out over the smallest of things.

I hope you find some independence soon! 🙂
