This is something I think every time I watch a film that involves two ex lovers who had to go separate ways due to life circumstances.
With Lalaland, I like everything up until the very last part of the movie, where Mia goes to Seb’s with her husband. I can’t help but think the husband’s feelings. Like, if I was at a nice jazz bar with my partner and they were just sitting next to me going through the thoughts of a different (better!?) life they could of had without me? I would lose it. It’s so humiliating to the current partner. Imo, that flashback should have been just about the memories they had, not the possible future. It just shows that they aren’t over each other deep down in their hearts. The sad expression adds to it too. And she has kids like….
Lots of people cry during that last scene and I do too, but for different reasons, thinking about the possible nightmare of being married to someone who can think of a different life without me. Someone who chose to be with me because they couldn’t be with the person of their dreams.

Just because they show it doesn’t mean it’s glorified, it’s just a painful truth of what they genuinely feel.
