Haha my mother is one of the most frugal people you will ever meet. My life has been painful with her due to it. Has its uses but my goodness the stories are endless.

I think the worst is I always have to hide times I spend money on anything not what I need to remaining breathing every day. God forbid I buy myself something nice as a treat. Never hear the end of it. It gets brought up every time I have any concern regarding money e.g. my job is on the line in a big wave of cuts at work and she makes sure to remind me of how I could save lots of money but I waste it on new boots or dyeing my hair once a year.

He took me out to dinner, ordered water for both of us without asking, then asked if I could Venmo him half the tip. It was eight dollars. He also made a comment about how I “ate a little more than him” so technically I owed slightly more. I paid and blocked him before dessert lol lol

Complained about giving me 1-2 kernels of a pomegranate. Yes, 1-2 kernels. She used to eat half my food but she couldn’t spare those

When I was in middle school, my mother used to unroll my used menstrual pads and tell me that I was too wasteful for changing them so frequently. Much of the time, the pad would be super-saturated in the middle but not at either end; apparently I was supposed to reposition the pad twice to ensure maximum saturation throughout its length.

My ex admitted to me that he was tracking the mileage on each of our cars in a spreadsheet to ensure that he wasn’t putting more miles on his car driving me places, than I was putting on my car to drive him places. I asked if it was about gas money, and he said it was about the future value of his car. We didn’t go on road trips or anything, he was literally tracking 5 min drives to the grocery store, thinking they were affecting the value of his car.

My ex husband is affluent but extremely frugal. Our son had a soccer game in the middle of nowhere. Neither of us have a car. I wanted to get an uber, but he insisted on walking. 3 1/2 hours each way.

I thought I could help Mum with sorting some of her stuff after Dad passed but she refused to throw anything out or give away. This was about 3 years ago.

Here’s a short list off the top of my head.

    • She insisted she could re-sell Dad’s old collection of pirated DVDs.
    • I found a massive box of cleaned disposable plastic containers and bottles.
    • Broken kitchen scissors were patched together with tape and rubber band. She didn’t want to spend money on a new one and was not happy that I replaced it.
    • She had piles of newspaper that she wanted to recycle because recycling companies pay a bit of money for them but never called them for pick up.
    • She had a collection of used envelopes. I went through the whole thing to remove the stamps because she wanted to collect them but then told me she wanted to “check” if I missed anything and then kept them anyway because she uses them for writing notes.

My mother would cut the dryer sheets in half. She would rinse out plastic ziploc (type) bags to reuse them.
