I don’t think most people can tell the difference between an artery and a vein without consulting some kind of reference guide.
Arteries pump, veins return.
One is significantly more dangerous.

FYI though, there are some veins that are equally as vital/lethal as arteries. Whether you cut your carotid artery, or your jugular vein, you’ll still bleed out in like 15 seconds. The opposite is true as well, there are arteries the are less vital than certain veins.
The only real distinction between veins and aretries is which direction they’re going from the heart
