Do liberals objectively think that equality exists between men and women when women are not in the draft? Even if they agree/disagree with the policy..can you objectively say that equality has been done by the sexes if women are not in the draft?

I don’t see why women would be excluded from a draft in modern times where women are a part of our military, but I also don’t see this as anything remotely close to a significant issue affecting equality.

A male-only draft is indeed an unequal policy. It’d be really great if people opposed to that could just agree to get rid of it instead of being split between adding women and getting rid of it.

There’s never going to be perfect equality because that is biological reality. Men dont get pregnant, have periods etc. Women dont have the physical strength men have. Why would we want to draft women when it would probably just cause more of our soldiers to die? It is such a boring conversation to have

  5. LittleSnuggleNugget Avatar

Of course it’s not equal. No one should be drafted.

Liberal View on the draft is that there shouldn’t be a draft. All volunteer army.

  7. xxxjessicann00xxx Avatar

    Nobody should be drafted.

    The draft should be abolished.

I hope this isn’t a ‘gotcha’ attempt – we all acknowledge the disparity in selective service registration. Feminists fall into one of two categories really without exception: women should be added to the selective service registration requirement, or men should be removed from it (ending the whole system).

It is certainly unequal for the draft to exclude women. However, liberals generally think that nobody should be drafted at all.

Additionally, the last draft was in 1972, so it’s a bit silly to hold up something that has not affected anybody in half a century as an ongoing example of inequality.

This conversation has to be without a doubt in the top ten of subjects that expose not being very exposed to the actual conversations being had in various groups and ideologies.

It’s pretty much the default among liberals generally and feminists specifically that the draft is an issue. Either the draft should be eliminated or if it stays, women should be included in the Selective Service and drafted if the draft actually happens.

Also … the draft will never fucking happen unless their is a global level collapse. The US Military is nothing like it was in WWII or even during the Vietnam War. We run a high trained and technical military where even the least trained members with the least amount of expertise are still required to be far more competent than random people pulled in and quickly put through boot camp.

Simple, draft everyone or no one. Nordic style.

I think women should be included in the draft. I also think that anytime the US conducts any military activity outside the US that the draft should be imposed and an automatic tax hike on the wealthy and corporations should be imposed.

We need to stop these endless wars and make the wealthiest pay for it and the public oppose them.

We wanted no draft at all but whenever we mention that you guys just kinda go all side eyed and scuttle away

The draft is primarily used to grow and replenish manpower (personpower?) in branches of the armed forces that are likely to suffer high casualties. This puts the infantry, armor and artillery units front and center. Given that relatively few women make the cut for the infantry and many conservatives seem to think they shouldn’t be allowed to join at all I’m not sure I see the problem.

For what it’s worth I think women shouldn’t be exempt from the draft, but even if they are the outcomes are not going to be the same for men and women for this reason.

  16. limbodog Avatar

On the list of problems with Equality between the sexes, the draft ranks very low to me. But once we tackle the 457 items before it, I’ll be happy to address it.

Ironically the people who decrypt his unfair it is also trend to be the people who object to women being in the military in my experience

  17. AndrewRP2 Avatar

Have a draft or not. If we’re doing it in response to an actual military war against the US, it seems foolish to require a draft as most Americans would step up.

What we’re worried about is say, a draft to invade Canada or Greenland.

  18. NoDivide2971 Avatar

Then, include women in the draft.

You realize it is conservatives who oppose it, right?

  19. drdpr8rbrts Avatar

Men aren’t in the draft either. The entire thing is just a relic sitting in the corner, that nobody is ever going to fix because nobody is ever going to use it.

It’s like your town’s laws about cleaning horse droppings from the front of your house. Has no bearing on anything.

    • There’s a lot of places where men and women are not equal, and we should strive for equality everywhere to the greatest degree possible.

    • We shouldn’t have a draft at all.

  21. Bhimtu Avatar

And why is this? Because to my way of looking at it, that’s a sexist policy to not draft females while drafting males. Females have been in our military for generations. If we want full equality, we should be willing to meet the same standards as men are expected to -including being drafted.

Wars are not fought by men alone. We’ve been here since we crawled up outta the slime, fighting alongside men.

  22. antizeus Avatar

    We don’t objectively think anything.

Thinking is mind-dependent and therefore inherently subjective.

Anyway I think selective service is evidence of inequality under the law.
