Hello r/legaladvice,
I bought a brand new car from a Volvo dealership. I opt to get their tinted window service, but when the car was returned to me it had a new scratch on the back. I asked Volvo to fix it, which they agreed and they took my car to a bodyshop.
Now this is where things get weird; let me preface that I understand often time mechanics will drive your car after a fix to test drive it. But this was not a mechanical issue, it’s for a scratch. It did not need to be driven, and definitely not for over 250 miles in a single day (and more the next). And not at 10 PM at night. With multiple passengers. To a wedding venue.
I know all of this because the car came with all those new features that let me know through the logs in its app which doors are being opened, when the car is started, where it is driven to, etc…
I took my concerns to Volvo and they’re talking to the bodyshop. But to be prepared, any advice/recommendation on what to do?

Unless you have damages, the thing to do here is not to use that shop again.
One sort of imagines Volvo will take this seriously.
You’re not suing for enough to be worth the effort if that’s the question.
I would bring this up to corporate and I would get the GM of the dealership involved, the service manager is probably going to try and cover it up so no point in going to the service people. tell them you have evidence of the joy rides and 250 miles being put on your car. I would demand compensation, heck even the dealer charges x amount per a mile plus the gas wasted on the vehicle. I would also demand corporate to cover any repairs in the case of a failure by providing an extended warranty at no charge to you from the extra wear and tear of future repairs. If they don’t comply tell them you’ll take it social media, write a bad review, and blast that Volvo dealers name in Austin and threaten legal action if they don’t comply with any of your demands. There is no guarantee they will do anything but it’s worth a shot. You can consult an attorney but you’ll probably be paying out of your own pocket as it isn’t worth pursuing to them bc of the $$$
