Will in Stranger Things should be killed off.

r/

Will’s character has been useless pretty much since the end of season 2, and now serves absolutely no purpose in the show aside from having an unrequited crush on Mike.

Honestly I’ve always thought that one of the kids should die anyways, and all the other kids still serve a purpose and forward the plot in some way. It would give the show a real sense of urgency and fear if they killed off one of them, so they might as well kill off the one who doesn’t do anything. It would also be quite poetic for the character who the whole cast spent 2 seasons trying to save end up dying, and it would be especially cool if he ended up sacrificing himself for Mike, and I think would tie up and end his character’s story perfectly.

If one of the original kids dies it really says to the audience that no one is safe, and I feel like the show needs that in it’s last season to really have its audience on the edge of their seats.

    Or at least his haircut

Fuck it, I’m down to see that

Not shot they kill the gay character / actor, too risky with the potential backlash from the SJWs

The whole damned show should have been killed off. There’s no reason for it to have lasted more than 3 seasons.

I think if you want to kill anyone for effect, it’s Mike. Will loves him, Eleven loves him, Hop and Joyce are connected to him, he’s Nancy’s brother, etc. He’s the leader of the group and it would be shattering to them if he died.

Will dying just feels like killing the kid who was always destined to die, and it usually doesn’t go over well. Like, between seasons 1 and 2, it would suck for him to survive all that, live out his days in trauma and in the closet, just to die anyway. Why did we watch all that stuff from the first couple seasons saving him and helping him if that was gonna happen anyway? I think it would be a pretty unpopular move.

Yeah Will isn’t a very good character, it isn’t the actor’s fault but the other characters were just fleshed out more in season 1 and became more likable as a result. But it isn’t just that because even characters like Max and Robin are more likable than Will and they weren’t introduced until later. I guess it’s just bad writing. Character is pointless.

yeah im with you. DEATH TO WILL!

Will was such an important character in the first two seasons but got 0 development and is easily the least interesting of the main cast

I’ll go even further and say that Mike has to kill Will to save El. I’m sure that won’t happen but it’d be interesting to see for sure. Vecna or whatever already has ties to Will so it’s not that much of a stretch that those ties come back, Will becomes controlled by Vecna, tries to kill El, and Mike takes him out.

I agree with you, he alone has been a burden and if he were to die heroically, it would be a great redemption for him.

Also, it bothers me that they made him gay, they made him so flat and basically his whole arc of this last season is trying to confess to Mike, they could well instead of make him gay make a character with the Peter Pan syndrome, someone who as a result of his experience in his childhood remained as a child even when he saw that his friends were growing up, He had the potential to feel trapped in his childhood (remembering how he had been trapped in the other world) but no, he became another flat gay character without contribution

None of the kids are dying.

That just seems silly. Let’s all try and save this one character in season 1 just to kill them off in season 5 like no sorry.

Personally Max needs to go. Finish off her storyline by not letting her wake up from the coma. I love her and her character but she’s not that special

Bury your gays trope? I dk if that would sit well. Pretty cliche if he sacrifices himself for Mike too.

The Duffer brothers made a big mistake letting their young cast have so much input and control over the narrative of their characters. Don’t kill him off. That’s shitting on the audience that sat through and invested in his ordeal for season 1 and 2.

Just drop the gay crush nonsense. And give him a haircut for God’s sake.

With watching the date announcement & slight teaser, I definitely think he’s going to be more important.

I think with S3 & S4, he was there because Joyce & Jonathan were and it wouldn’t make that much sense to just have him not on screen as much, and I think he was needed there to show that everyone is growing up but he is still slightly behind, rightfully so because 2 years of his life have been hell so he was just chilling out a bit maybe?? Until the threats of course, he helped Mike & Jonathan help Eleven, etc.

With season 5, he looks absolutely terrified so I believe he may be serving a bigger purpose again.

One of my biggest disappointments with the show is that they didn’t follow through with killing Max at the end of season 4. Every season they kill off like-able side characters (Barbara, Bob, Alexei, Eddie) while further demonstrating that the kids are protected by Plot Armor

Will is actually so annoying to me. Just seeing his face all worried and in gay yearning in all his shots, giving us nothing. While everyone else is consumed in the chaos and busy. He’s dead weight to the crew and is only around for lgbt inclusion purposes. We already had a gay character, and she was cool at least.

I don’t understand wanting a good character to die, despite it being a fictional narrative. The whole point of dramatic tension is to feel connected to characters and empathize.

    I agree KILL HIM…I mean his hair!!!!!of.

A lot of things should have happened other ways. The series had a great season 1 and went down hill from there.

Example all the useless side characters of season 2. Strangers things is simply a bad series excluding season 1

Some shows are best wrapped sooner and I think this is one that should have had, at most, three seasons. But I can agree to disagree.

Even if Will survives this all, the man has so much ptsd. Will, as a character, also surfers from being the “Doug from the Hangover” in their group. Nobody really even remembers Doug from that movie even though it’s his bachelor party. The main stars are the friends doing everything to save Doug!

A good death would be him sacrificing himself to wipe out the dark entity once and for all.

I didn’t bother watching past the first season. Most overrated show ever

I don’t hate the idea, though it’s problematic. And personally I think they’ve left it too late to let us know ‘no one is safe’.

  26. GreySneakers83 Avatar

One of the OG kids dying in the last, 2nd last or even 3rd last episode of the series (which is what will most likely happen) won’t have much of a “oh shit no one is truly safe” effect, because there won’t be time afterwards to work up to any other major character’s death.

IMO they should’ve killed off Max the first time, rather than give us two fake out deaths for her. Would’ve been so impactful, and really given off the no one is safe vibe.

Excellent series, but the Duffer brothers really shoulda been braver with killing off characters (and not killed off Eddie in such a dumb way the same season he was introduced).
