What helps with stress?

r/

Looking for advice with how others manage stress and anxiety in high pressure positions. Recently I’ve been thrown into a very political situation with high business stakes. The situation is way above me and I’m being asked to sort out issues.

Every time my phone rings I feel my heart drop. What tips do others have to help not feel clueless and not have constant anxiety?

Exercise is great in general. But you could try like chamomile tea or something other mild natural anxiolytic if you’re looking for more of a quick fix to quell your nerves (without resorting to booze or something lol).

If you do wanna go down that path, other natural anti-anxiety herbals include Valerian, Passion flower, Lemon balm, Kava, etc.

    Talk therapy or journaling/CBT therapy.
    Building your self esteem/confidence.
    Separating work and personal life.
Seeking advice from people in your specific position who are successful.
Being as prepared as you can be.
Taking care of your basic needs and mental health so you are sharp for work.

Always step back and take a breath. It seems like the person needs an answer immediately, but with the exception of a few scenarios, taking a pause to gather your thoughts or think through a problem is beneficial to handling the panic that is likely going on in your mind. Your responses will be thought out and measured if you learn to pause and take a breath in high stake situations

For me, I take at least 45 minutes to be in nature, workout often (I bike, run, and lift), have sex often if possible, and try to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. I’m also personally a Christian. Whatever your beliefs are, I also recommend finding some kind of community that can provide moral guidance and a sense of something higher than yourself.

    stop answering the phone.

if it’s that important, you won’t need a phone call to find out.

For me, I went from selling cars and being a finance manager to being a life insurance salesman, in a very competitive agency. When I did so, I was also trying to save my marriage and my house, financially.

I was stressed to the max. I was anxious all the time. So, I took caffeine pills with 200 mg in each and would take multiple pills daily. That would push me from anxious to energized and had to keep moving. It worked for me.

Alas, all I did was create a pace that was impossible to maintain, and after working nearly a year, breaking every record within the agency, never seeing my family l, making $100k per month, I crashed and burned out. I put 10,000 miles on my car per month.

I have learned better ways of handling stress. Ashwaganda, magnesium glycinate and L-arginine alpha keto glutarate supplements help a ton, throw in Ceylon cinnamon, and turmeric and I can handle all stress that comes my way.

To get better with working with people in high stress, you need to read books on sales. Read as much as you can, watch Alan Shore in Boston Legal, emulate his demeanor. I have a leg up on intimidation due to physical size, even though I’m a gentle giant, I manifest an air of superiority.
