Hi, looking for advice on my car that got towed while parked on what seemed like normal street parking. The community where I am located is not gated and it was unclear where the permitted parking starts/stops. This sign indicating the area of parking permits are required was posted on the opposite side of the street from where I parked (which I did not see), so it was a shock when my car was missing the next day. When I spotted the sign that was across the street today after looking around the area, there was no contact information to any toll companies to locate my car, I had to call the non emergency police line to find out where my car was towed (I had even initially assumed it was stolen).
I have been doing some research since and found that this sign is in violation of California Vehicle Code 22650 due to no contact information of the towing company being provided. I plan to pickup my car tomorrow, however; should I write the owners a letter demanding the property owners pay the tow fee or pursue legal action for the possible unlawful tow?
