Russia will engage in some sort of operation against civilians.
I remember being astounded when I spent a brief time in Russia that they did not care about doing important things but they cared very, very much about being viewed as important.
A lot less planes to play that dumb dick flopping play they do when they tease Alaskan air space and get clowned on and bouncer escorted out every time.
Putin will throw a tantrum and escalate. Expect heavy missile barrages on civilians and a pretty significant false flag event. I also expect an increase in Russian propaganda and paying off high level Americans to try to turn the public perception. Putin is embarrassed and an embarrassed narcissist is an ugly thing.
People are bringing up the physical damage caused, which is valid, but they are missing how this will cause Russia to seriously tighten its security throughout the country. The war will become more visible for the Russian citizens who will have to deal with the new hassles created by added security measures, which will also cost money to implement.
My question is- since they knew that executing this attack would make it far more difficult to do in the future…did they go ahead and get another 20 trailers into the country to wait and hit another target?
Probably a half assed missile barrage that’s called “divine retaliation” by the Russian MSM, possibly featuring another one of those oreshnik missiles.
If I were a diplomat for Ukraine at the upcoming peace talks, I’d really like there to be a strike on a culturally important building or infrastructure during the talks.
Very much a “there are more attacks coming, and we are now taking the war to you” threat.
Russia will have less resources for launching long range strikes and will be forced to devote more resources to defending their airfields within their own borders. This isn’t the first, second, or third major move within Russian borders that Ukraine has undertaken and Russia’s inclination to keep fighting didn’t change at all.
Russia will claim that their next round of previously planned war crimes; cancer ward bombings, and obliterating hotels and churches are Ukraine’s fault.
Very little will happen initially. Russia will be quiet for some time as they assess the losses (read: find out who is to blame / trying to avoid getting blamed and punishments).
Apart from a few strategic defenestrations and brash proclamations by government officials, we will not see much action in the next few days.
There won’t be increased security measures in Russia, except in a few high-visibility locations. The Russians simply cannot increase their domestic security measures without hurting the economy.
Over time Russia will be weaker than ever, since their capability to launch air attacks has suffered a serious blow.
The West will see that ultimately allowing Ukraine to strike deep into ruzzia was not only a great idea, but rather over due. Hopefully this will encourage even more support to Ukraine and help provide the hard devastating blows that ruzzia needs to feel finally.
Russia will do a big ass retribution attack, for which Ukraine is hopefully well prepared.
It was a huge military success, and an incredible complex operation. Very impressive. So I would also assume that Trump will claim credit for it, and will blame Selenskyj for the retribution attack.
Trump will be receiving a briefing from Putin on what to say next.
Then Trump with come out with another nuts statement to big up Putin and say Zelensky had no right to do this.
I am a peaceful civilian from Ukraine. After this situation, things will only get better, because now Russia has half as many planes to launch missiles. Before, for example, 12 planes could take off at night, and a small portion of the missiles they launched couldn’t be intercepted. With the number of planes they have left, they have almost no chance of causing damage.
I also don’t understand when people talk about a “response.” No one fights at half strength just to save something for a “retaliation.”
Entire Russians intelligence community is on fire. Everyone needs to seem really busy figuring out how this happened. Lots of Russian military and intelligence people will be deployed to Donbas front or fall out of windows, and they will be replaced by unqualified bootlickers. Somebody high up takes the blame and is imprisoned or falls out of a window. The state media will downplay what happened and suppress the story as much as possible, full scope will never be known by the public. 200-300 missile and drone barrage on Ukraine as retaliation, mostly civilian targets and infrastructure. On US side they will probably complain that they were not kept in the loop, but somehow they claim this as their achievement and it never could have happened under Biden admin.
This should actually be an eye opener to the world that drone warfare has completely changed the game. Patrolling airspace, having security gates and checkpoints is nice. But the fact that all you need to do is get drones half a mile from a navy port, army base, etc. to cause Pearl Harbor like damage is quite scary.
And while Ukraine claims this one, imagine a situation where drones take out a guided missile destroyer sitting “safely” in homeport or a military academy graduation ceremony where drones are hidden in a refreshments trunk a mile away, and no one takes responsibility.
A lot of force protection relies on proximity, but drones have changed the game. Scary stuff.
IAT the op’s question, every commanding officer is scheduling a meeting with their FP/AT officers, MPs, etc. to discuss hardening their defenses against similar attacks in the future.
In response to the fairly careful targeting of military and strategic targets, Russia will respond by indiscriminately bombing civilians. Hospitals, nurseries, soup kitchens.

a few high-ranking russian officials will have window-related accidents

Next Ukranian operation?
A barrage likely on civilians
Brilliant and stunning move on Ukraine’s part. Keep on going!
Russia will have fewer bombers to attack Ukrainian cities with. End of sentence.
It’s going to be a rough day for Ukrainian civilians tomorrow.
Freaking brilliant move. But it’s not enough to change much in the strategic picture. Not unless they can do it again.

everything except for what reddit thinks

Someone bring me up to speed what did Ukraine just do?
Russian will threaten nuclear war for the 78th time this year, and a few Russian generals will fall out of windows.
Putin will want to demonstrate very quickly why he should remain in power.
Between Ukraine and Russia, who knows what the outcome will be tomorrow.
For the rest of the world, we’ve seen a new preview of war looks like in the 21st century, and every country is taking notes.
I freaking love these crazy bastards.

Would not be surprised to see Trump castigate Zelenskyy for not wanting peace.
Some guy in DC will yell at his aides for not telling him about drones.
Russia will claim that their next round of previously planned war crimes; cancer ward bombings, and obliterating hotels and churches are Ukraine’s fault.
Trump will threaten Ukraine and say how Zelenskyy is prolonging the war
Paranoia will be present for some time.
High impact military targets like hospital, schools, malls, will be hit with retaliatory strikes.
Some higher ups will have some window cleaning accidents.

We’ll sleep a bit better here in Finland, knowing that the Russian garbage slowly piling on our borders will be slightly curbed for a while.

Because Putin is a bitch
The war will continue with fewer Russian aircraft
Military forces and governments around the world will start paying (even) more attention to drones.
