As long as the shoes are easy to take off/on and I have my socks on ( which I always do) taking the shoes off does 2 things for me:
- Vents out my shoes, cools them down a bit so they are colder when I put them back on
- Cools down my feet.
The floor is usually as clean as the common sum of all the socks that walk through it. It’s not like walking outside.

You don’t think TSA and airport workers walk through that area w their dirty shoes on?
I might be excessive, but if I ever take my shoes off I never put those socks that touched the floor back in my shoes.
When I go through TSA I specifically wear the oldest pair of socks I have, throw them away, then put on clean socks when putting my shoes back on. But as I said, I’m sure many would find that excessive.
You can do that without everyone else having to do it, too.
