fruit flys only live to around 1-2 months and we got like 80 years on this earth so we should make it count and be glad we didn’t spawn in as a fruit fly
Learning to care for another thing more than you care about yourself.
You could get married, have a kid, or get a dog but until you understand the truth of self-sacrifice it really does not hit and you’re probably a borderline psychopath.
So please, please find something to love more than yourself at least once.
There used to be so much death. So much disease. War. Slavery.
Enemies would invade and wipe out entire villages. Reading history just informs me of how volatile life and “peace” could be. So if your life is relatively peaceful and you aren’t seeing tanks roll down the streets on a daily basis, be grateful. Enjoy life. Love life.
Time doesn’t stop. That speech I’m about to give in front of my class and I’m sweating balls over, in the next 2 minutes, it’s going to be done with. 2 minutes is two minutes
There are more permutations of a deck of cards than atoms in the observable universe. If ever you want to feel special, shuffle a deck of cards thoroughly and presto! You are now the proud owner of that permutation (likely) ever existing in all of human history before you and any history to come afterwards!
When I read that the orbit of Mercury around the sun was found to contradict Newton’s theory of gravity, yet that very theory was used to get us to the moon, despite there being a theory available (Einstein’s relativity) that got Mercury right.
It made me realize that science isn’t about what’s “true”, that is, “reality”, but rather, it’s just a conceptual framework that allows us to make sense of all our observations. It made me realize that whatever “reality” is, it’s not available to us; “knowledge” itself is just a hypothetical framework. If we’re brains in vats, we have no idea of what the “real” physical laws are; our “knowledge” only applies to our “in-universe” experience.
It made me realize that we shouldn’t argue with flat-earthers or creationists, not just because we think their ideas are dumb, but because they’re simply not science, or knowledge. Flat-earthers and creationists want to make claims about the nature of reality. Who cares? We can’t know anything about the nature of reality, so it’s kindof a moot point. If they want to be relevant, let them propose some hypothetical frameworks that are superior to Einstein’s, or as useful as Newton’s “wrong” theory of gravity. Who cares about “reality”? Science doesn’t. And knowledge doesn’t.
I could go on, but I doubt anyone has read this far anyway 😆 I’m sure I sound like a crank
“People are living in this world for the first time. You are living this world for the first time. Your mother, father, and sibling is also living in this world for the first time. Basically everyone.” So let’s be kinder (edit:depends on the context)
A park ranger responded when asked why it’s so hard to design bear proof garbage cans. He said there is a surprising amount of overlap between smart bears and dumb people.
The people at the very top of any field actually don’t know as much as you think. Everything is constantly changing and it’s impossible to know everything. Many people just make things up as they go and pretend with confidence and experience to pull it off.
“Think of how stupid the average person is and realize half of the world is dumber than them” ik it’s more of a quota but also works as a statistical fact
For a long while I never understood why so many things were the way they are, then I realized how a lot of society lacks education and skills to understand the world and how the people who do take advantage of that
And I’m not calling myself someone on the upper echelons of intellect, I’m an idiot myself who falls for a lot of thing, but even if I’m on the 40% dumbest of people… Well, the world makes more sense
Everything we will ever experience is happening on the thin layer rust around an incomprehensibly large ball of molten iron flying through a mysterious void.
Once you start really thinking about what’s above the sky, you’ll realise how small we are, and how small our problems are in the big picture.

Think of how dumb the average person is and there are 3.5 billion people dumber than them
There will always be someone better than you

Majority are casting voodoo spells.
“There are going to be people more successful than you that are much dumber than you.” Really motivated me to start doing more with my life
seeing the timeline of life on earth and realising how short and insignificant humans are time wise compared to the damaged we have caused.
Mother nature wont die – she’ll just shake us off like a bad case of the fleas

Time is not linear
The world will continue to spin, no matter what happens to you.

Death is natural.
Intentional or unintentional is it a natural phenomenon in our Environment. (Environmental Science Student here) Intrinsic Value.
The incredible distances between space objects, how gargantuan some can be, and how insignificant we really are in the grand scheme of it all.
See Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot. It truly is enlightening.

My job would replace me. My family never could.
Became easier to prioritize after that.
Not everyone was raised like you.
Unless you do something exceptional, the last people who will mourn you are your grandchildren.

Not a fact but a song lyric. Change how you view all things and what you see will change.

Every single day, you interact with people you will never see or think about again

There are people living in slums who would do anything to trade places with someone like me lol

We all die in the end. Make the most of it.
Half of all humans ever born died because of mosquitoes.

Socialism sucks.
It’s a thought I had one day. “It’s not what happens to you that defines you, but how you react to it.”
The ISS clumping experiments blew my mind. I had some doubt that random particles in space would attract each other. Not any more
