I am an emergency manager in the United States, AMA

r/

Off the bat, I have not worked for FEMA, so I’d have no specific insight on current events regarding the agency, but I have worked for private companies, myself, not for profits, and more as an EM. AMA…

I’m having an emergency, I ran out of beer! Can you bring me a 6 pack?

What does the job entail and how did you get into that career?

I have never even heard of this job before but have handled emergencies for my job. So a few questions:

    1. Is this contract work? Does an emergency happen and you get hired quickly to manage the solution? Or are you on a retainer and ready to jump into action on a clients behalf at any time?
    2. What is an example of an emergency you’ve managed?
    3. How’s the pay? I feel like I’d be pretty good at this tbh

I live in Asheville, NC – were you sent “on call” here after hurricane Helene?

What’s the worst imaginable emergency the United States could have happen?

Is it truly an EMP/power outage for 1+ week?

What would cripple us the most that we take for granted
